Health and Safety Manager - Lindal & Sowerby

Reports to: Operations Director

Lead the transformation of workplace safety culture whilst directly advising senior leadership on critical risk decisions. Shape the future of health and safety across our organisation with genuine strategic influence.
What you'll be doing

Leadership & Strategy
  • Lead the development and implementation of health and safety strategy, policies, and procedures
  • Act as subject matter expert, advising senior management on compliance, risks, and improvements
  • Promote a culture of accountability and continuous improvement

Compliance & Risk Management
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation
  • Conduct risk assessments, audits, and inspections across sites
  • Manage accident/incident reporting, root cause analysis, and corrective action plans
  • Liaise with external regulators, auditors, and stakeholders

Training & Development
  • Develop and deliver training programmes to raise awareness and competency
  • Ensure induction programmes include appropriate health and safety content
  • Act as visible advocate for safe working practices

Performance & Emergency Preparedness
  • Maintain accurate health and safety records, metrics, and dashboards
  • Report performance trends and progress to senior leadership
  • Develop emergency response plans and conduct readiness drills

What you'll bring

Essential Experience & Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in Health & Safety management role
  • Professional health and safety qualification (NEBOSH Diploma, NVQ Level 5, or equivalent)
  • Membership of recognised professional body (IOSH Chartered Member or working towards)
  • Demonstrable experience managing audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations
  • Track record of developing safety improvement initiatives with measurable results

Key Skills
  • Strong knowledge of health, safety, and environmental legislation
  • Proven ability to lead change and foster positive safety culture
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Confidence managing complex, high-risk environments
