Main Purpose of The Role:
To advise and support Site Management in the locations covered on all aspects of Health and Safety appropriate to the workplace, in line with BCAUK HSE Policy and arrangements manual.
Ensuring policies and procedures are in place to provide for safe working conditions and the occupational Health and Safety for all people, customers and contractors on our sites including supporting on facilities management issues that affect health, safety, welfare or compliance with H&S legislation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Champion a strong health & safety culture across multiple operational sites
- Manage risk assessments and ensure required controls are implemented effectively
- Conduct and support regular safety inspections and audits, ensuring remedial actions are completed
- Provide root-cause analysis and escalate issues when needed
- Ensure adequate first aid, welfare, and safety provisions across all sites
- Attend serious incidents, support investigations, and help implement preventive measures
- Produce clear safety reports to support performance monitoring and improvement
- Support health & safety aspects of operational and construction-related projects
- Work with site management on monthly H&S meetings, risk reviews, and action tracking
- Collaborate within cross-functional teams to support operational and business initiatives
- Provide technical H&S guidance to managers and supervisors, promoting a safe working environment
- Oversee the escalation and resolution of significant risks and issues
- Maintain high standards of governance, controls, and reporting across all safety processes
- Liaise with enforcement bodies (HSE/EHO/EA) as required
- Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders to ensure consistency and resolve issues across sites
Knowledge and Experience Required: - Proven experience in a similar H&S role
- NEBOSH Occupational Safety & Health Certificate or equivalent Level 3 qualification
- Broad knowledge of technical H&S controls including asbestos, legionella, fire safety, DSEAR and contractor management
- Understanding of lean practices such as 5S, root cause analysis and 5 Whys
- Strong PC skills including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Ability to write clear and concise risk assessments and safety documentation
- Strong communication and influencing skills and the ability to make a strong case for change
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and manage time effectively
- Ability to motivate and develop self and others
- Continuous improvement mindset
- Strong risk management and compliance knowledge with a pragmatic approach
- Willingness to join a relevant professional body and maintain CPD
Desirable - Minimum 5 years' experience in automotive, logistics, retail or facilities management
- Experience with UK QHSE systems such as HSG 65, ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001
- Level 6 or 7 H&S qualification such as NEBOSH Diploma, NVQ 6 or MSc in Safety or Environmental Health
- Fire risk assessment, DSEAR or environmental qualifications
- Membership of IOSH, CIEH or similar bodies
