The Role: Senior Health, Safety & Environment Advisor - Humber
Purpose:
To provide proactive, practical advice and support to ensure ABP operates safely and in compliance with all relevant legislation. The role is responsible for maintaining, developing, and continuously improving all aspects of Health, Safety, and Environment (HS&E) management in line with ABP policies, procedures, and statutory requirements. It will also provide assurance over activities undertaken by ABP employees and suppliers.
Covering 4 x port locations; Hull, Immingham, Grimsby & Goole.

Accountabilities
- Act as a trusted advisor and champion for proactive health, safety, and environmental performance, driving a culture of safety and sustainability across the business.
- Provide expert guidance on HS&E matters, including ABP procedures, risk assessments, and safe systems of work, ensuring alignment with best practice and legal requirements.
- Coach, mentor, and influence managers and employees at all levels to strengthen HS&E capability and embed ownership of responsibilities.
- Lead the promotion and delivery of regional safety campaigns and environmental initiatives, ensuring alignment with group objectives.
- Chair or facilitate local HS&E Committees, ensuring robust governance, accurate records, and timely action tracking.
- Represent HS&E at local operational and engineering meetings, providing strategic input and solutions to emerging risks.
- Lead the preparation and delivery of comprehensive monthly HS&E reports, including trend analysis, performance insights, and proactive improvement recommendations.
- Lead complex incident investigations, producing detailed reports with actionable recommendations and ensuring lessons learned are communicated and embedded.
- Influence and monitor remedial and preventative actions, ensuring systemic improvements and risk reduction.
- Plan, conduct, and manage assurance activities including audits, inspections, and behavioural safety observations, ensuring compliance and continuous improvement.
- Develop, review, and enhance health and safety procedures, standards, and guidance to reflect best practice and legislative changes.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications
Essential
- A recognised health and safety qualification (Bsc. NEBOSH Diploma, NVQ or equivalent.
- Experience of developing, managing and maintaining effective safety management systems / programmes.
- Effective communication skills; written and oral with ability to manage site-level relationships
- Excellent knowledge of HSE regulations and management systems; an understanding of behavioural safety concepts
- Confident with the use of IT systems, e-learning platforms and software
- Hold a current UK Driving Licence and be able to travel to ports within region
Ideal
- Experience within ports, engineering or cargo handling environment or high hazard industry
- Chartered member or working towards membership of IOSH and be able to demonstrate CPD (continual professional development).
- Ability to deliver effective training and coaching.
- Excellent knowledge of Safety and Health Management Systems (ISO 45001), Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001.
