About your role:

The Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Specialist at Centrica plays a key role in maintaining high standards of health, safety, and environmental performance across Retail operations. Working closely with colleagues, operational teams, and senior leaders, the role supports compliance with legislation, company policies, and recognised industry best practice while helping to strengthen a proactive safety culture.

Responsibilities of the role:
  • Provide expert guidance to colleagues and operational teams regarding all aspects of health, safety, and environmental legislation, company policies, and procedures.
  • Liaise, support and influence operational directors and other senior leaders to maintain HSE at the forefront.
  • Interrogate data, both anecdotally and with real purpose, to identify trends and take action on weak signals.
  • Proactively identify gaps in risk assurance, management system and operating processes to ensure a safer, healthier workforce.
  • Conduct targeted, focused engineer engagement visits and audits to ensure adherence to HSE standards and promptly identify areas for improvement.
  • Support the formulation, implementation, and ongoing review of improvement plans, risk assessments and safe systems of work.
  • Investigate and analyse incidents, accidents, and near misses, ensuring thorough root cause determination and the implementation of effective remedial measures.
  • Deliver engaging and informative HSE training sessions and briefings to employees and contractors, actively promoting a proactive safety culture.
  • Maintain comprehensive records and prepare detailed reports on HSE performance, trends, and strategic initiatives.
  • Liaise effectively with regulatory agencies, contractors, and relevant stakeholders as necessary.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of HSE campaigns and strategic initiatives across the organisation.
  • Remain informed of developments in relevant legislation, standards, and industry best practices, ensuring continuous improvement and legal compliance.

Here's what we're looking for:
  • NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (essential).
  • NEBOSH Diploma, NVQ, or Degree in a relevant discipline (or working towards).
  • IOSH membership with evidence of ongoing CPD.
  • Proven experience in a similar HSE business partnering role, ideally within utilities, energy, or construction.
  • Strong understanding of UK/Irish health, safety, and environmental legislation and standards.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations and producing high-quality reports.
  • Strong IT skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Full UK driving licence (essential).
