JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for the maintenance and continuous improvement of the HS&E Management System and processes in compliance with ISO14001 and ISO45001 standards.
The role will coordinate and manage accidents, near misses, and environmental incidents, ensuring effective investigation, reporting, and corrective actions.
The post holder will identify HS&E risks and implement mitigation strategies, ensuring compliance with all applicable legislation and regulations.
They will lead and support risk assessments, audits, training, and HS&E initiatives while acting as a key point of contact for internal stakeholders and external bodies.
Support the development of a proactive safety culture, driving behavioral safety and continuous improvement across the site.

Pay Rate: £38,000 to £43,000 per annum depending on experience
Location: Based across all Wakefield Acoustics sites in Heckmondwike, West Yorkshire

Health and Safety
- Support the Quality Department in maintaining the QHSE management system, taking ownership of ISO45001 requirements.
- Identification, mitigation, and planning of risk assessments (COSHH, Process, PUWER).
- Recording, investigation, and close-out of accidents and near misses within <24 hours.
- Organization and maintenance of HSE training records and schedules.
- Deliver inductions to new employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Conduct and report audits, safety walks, and emergency drills.
- Organise and effectively manage Health & Safety meetings.
- Coordinate third-party inspections and external bodies.
- Provide technical HS&E advice to management and workforce.
- Ensure compliance with ISO standards and legal requirements.
- Manage and organize Health Surveillance programs.
- Control contractor activities including Permit to Work systems.
- Report KPIs and present performance data to management and wider teams.
- Attend daily SIC/production meetings to coordinate HS&E issues.
- Lead incident investigations using structured methodologies (e.g. Root Cause Analysis, 5 Whys, Fishbone).
- Support development and review of Safe Systems of Work (SSOW) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Monitor and improve behavioral safety and near miss reporting culture.
Environmental
- Support the Quality Department in maintaining the QHSE management system, taking ownership of ISO14001 requirements.
- Identification, mitigation, and planning of environmental risks.
- Recording, investigation, and close-out of environmental incidents.
- Conduct environmental audits and inspections.
- Ensure compliance with environmental legislation and ISO standards.
- Maintain and review Environmental Aspects & Impacts register.
- Coordinate environmental improvement initiatives.
- Ensure site environmental plans and documentation are maintained.
- Report KPIs and present data to management.
- Monitor waste management, segregation, and disposal compliance.
- Support sustainability initiatives including energy reduction, carbon reporting, and resource efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with permits, consents, and environmental licenses (where applicable).
General Responsibilities
- Act as a key point of contact for HS&E across the business.
- Support internal and external audits (ISO, customer, regulatory).
- Maintain document control for HS&E procedures and records.
- Assist in emergency preparedness and business continuity planning.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives aligned to business objectives.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 3+ years' experience in an HS&E role.
- Proven track record of delivering HS&E training - Essential.
- Experience within production/manufacturing environment - Essential.
- High attention to detail and thoroughness - Essential.
- Welding and fabrication background - Desirable.
- Strong IT/computer skills - Essential.
- Experience working within ISO-certified management systems - Essential.
Experience dealing with regulatory bodies (e.g. HSE, Environment Agency) - Desirable
COMPETENCIES
LICENSING/CERTIFICATIONS:
- NEBOSH Certificate or Diploma - Essential.
- IOSH Membership (Tech IOSH / Grad IOSH) - Desirable.
- Internal Auditor qualification (ISO14001 / ISO45001) - Essential/Desirable depending on level.

- Experience with management systems (ISO14001, ISO45001).
- Trained Internal Auditor.
- Strong understanding of technical documentation.
