Job Description

AECOM is seeking a strategic and experienced SH&E Manager to lead and strengthen our Buildings & Places team in the Netherlands. In this senior leadership role, you will be responsible for shaping and driving the SH&E agenda across a diverse and complex portfolio of sites, including construction projects, offices, warehouses, terminals, and retail environments. You will play a key role in promoting a proactive safety culture, ensuring compliance, and translating SH&E objectives into measurable business and project outcomes.

You will work closely with operational leadership, HR, project teams, and client representatives to embed AECOM's safety vision and strengthen SH&E performance across AECOM. The role requires a leader who can operate strategically while remaining closely connected to operational delivery, team development, and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities include leading the development and implementation of SH&E strategies, plans, and standards across bids, projects, and operational locations, driving effective risk management and compliance in line with relevant legislation, internal requirements, and client expectations and overseeing incident investigations, audits, and improvement initiatives to ensure lessons learned are embedded across the organisation.

The SH&E Manager will also be responsible for monitoring performance through clear reporting, dashboards, and management briefings, while working closely with contractors, suppliers, and project stakeholders to maintain and improve SH&E standards.

In addition, the role includes leading and developing a team of SH&E Advisors, fostering a strong culture of visible safety leadership, accountability, and continuous improvement, and supporting the maintenance and development of management systems and certifications, including ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and ISO 9001.

This is a multi-site role covering locations across the Netherlands, with flexibility to work from AECOM offices and project locations as needed. Travel within the Netherlands is required.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in a senior SH&E role within construction, operational, or consultancy environments, with responsibility across multiple sites and a range of project types.
• Strong leadership capability, with experience in managing, coaching, and developing SH&E professionals and influencing stakeholders at all levels.
• Solid knowledge of SH&E management systems, regulatory compliance, risk management, incident investigation, auditing, and performance reporting.
• Demonstrated ability to build and sustain a proactive safety culture within complex and fast-paced environments.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills in both Dutch and English, with the ability to engage effectively across teams, leadership, clients, and contractors.
• A pragmatic and self-driven approach, with strong problem-solving skills and a focus on continuous improvement.
• A relevant SH&E qualification or equivalent professional background, supported by sound expertise in safety management systems and operational risk management.
• Experience with ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and ISO 9001 is strongly preferred, as well as familiarity with multi-site operations and high-risk project environments.
