Job Title: Trainee Health and Safety Advisor
Location: Glasgow
Responsible To: Head of Health and Safety and Senior Health and Safety Advisor
Job Function:
To assist in the delivery of an effective Corporate Health and Safety service to ensure CBES Ltd meets statutory responsibilities and provides a safe working environment for employees, clients and those affected by our undertaking whilst operating in compliance with company policy and procedure.
The Requirements:
To be successful in this role you will be self-motivated, innovative and be able to offer guidance where necessary on a broad range of Health and Safety issues and legislation.
You will have a minimum NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent NVQ. A degree in a relevant discipline would be advantageous but not essential.
An understanding of the construction and engineering industries would also be advantageous. Working within a progressive company, you will have a motivated and proactive approach with the ability to work well under pressure.
Assisting in the management of the formal EHS audit process of ad-hoc projects on site, you will promote the importance of EHS within the workforce, contractors and clients to encourage continual improvement. You will work as part of a team, building on current processes and procedures for CDM, occupational health and EHS focused training and development to ensure that they represent best practice.
As a trainee you will use your best endeavours to ensure your personal development and undergo any training, either academic or practical assignment, deemed necessary by your superiors.
This is a regional role and therefore demands a degree of flexibility and travel requirements. Travel will be required on a frequent basis throughout North and the UK.
It is imperative that your personal fitness level is of a reasonable standard; due to the nature of the job you will be required to climb ladders, work in confined spaces and work at heights etc.

Principle Accountabilities:
- Representing the company in a professional and competent manner at all times and developing strong working relationships with colleagues and clients.
- To ensure compliance with Health and Safety at Work Act, Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations and the CDM Regulations as they apply at all times. To comply with all other relevant Health and Safety regulations or instructions as they apply.
- Provide advice and guidance to Senior Manager, Project Managers and Employees on health and safety welfare issues.
- Assists with the preparation of safe work practices, method statements and risk assessments, construction phase health and safety plans and other health and safety related documents.
- To liaise with Project Managers to identify and facilitate the management of health and safety on projects.
- Undertake incident and near miss investigations through to conclusion.
- Assist the Health and Safety team in the co-ordination of a comprehensive range of training programmes in relation to health and safety management; including the delivery of Asbestos Awareness, Fire Warden, Display Screen Assessor and Display Screen User training courses.
- Plan and undertake regular site visits not only to audit but to communicate and act as a conduit for Health and Safety information.
- Complete site files within required timescales.
- Evaluate issues and formulate practical solutions
- To attend training courses as and where necessary and to ensure personal job skills keep pace with technical and business developments.
- To work with company and customer colleagues to ensure that laid-down standards of quality are maintained at all times.
- Undertake any other duties and/or responsibilities as may be required from time to time by the Head of Safety and Senior Health and Safety Advisor.
- Undertake surveys, on site audits and consultancy for third party clients.
- Develop safety management systems and produce statistical returns as required by Senior Management. These must adhere to required quality standards.
- To undertake any other duties, appropriate to the grade which will be consistent with the effective management of the department.
Key Performance Indicators:
- All minor accident investigations commenced within 1 working day of request
- Accident Investigation Reports, Written report made available within 7 working days of commencement of investigation
- Undertaking audit programme for all sites, audit completed and report to relevant Project Manager and Senior Health and Safety Advisor on day visit.
- Delivery of training courses, achievement of a course evaluation rating of 3.5 or above (maximum score 5).
- Attendance at internal health and safety forums, 100% of invitations (subject to approval by H & S Manager).
- Undertaking programme of inspections, Inspection report completed and issued to senior manager within 4 weeks of site visit.
- Specific training for departments, tailored to stakeholders needs.
