Job summary

This role requires thecandidate to work collaboratively across the retail business, the postholderwill support the achievement of compliance and continuous improvement inrelation to health and safety and regulatory standards, helping to ensure safeand smooth operations across the trading company / retail activity.

Main duties of the job

Reporting to the Headof Retail and Trading the post holder will work both autonomously and as partof the retail team, delivering a core health and safety support service whilstalso providing support to employees and other managers in their efforts tomaintain a safe workplace.

Job responsibilities

To oversee the operational management of the health andsafety elements in the retail business

Maintain safety information and promote safetycompliance by shaping new protocols and strengthening and improving existinghealth and safety approaches

To overseethe health and safety compliance and conformance such as safe practices atwork, gas and electrical safety, legionella, asbestos management plans,emergency lighting, fire management and any other requirements as required

To co-ordinate the recording of matters relating tohealth and safety, including risk assessments, collating and monitoringevidence of compliance and conformance (including the buildings matrix),ensuring alignment with the existing Governance processes

Compile statistics on mattersrelating to health and safety analysing their causes and making recommendationsto management accordingly

To support themanagement of internal and external audits.

To undertake shop visits as required

To ensure all actions arising from recommendationsresulting from audits and other activities are assigned to relevant person andcompleted, tracking and reporting on progress as required

To support the management to respond to external inspectionsand regulatory requests as required (but not to lead them)

To support the coordination of all statutory safetyinspections and / or management processes as needed

Experience

Essential

  • Experience in a compliance, health and safety, or site management role
  • Experience of working with UK H&S standards/regulations
  • 3 years plus experience in a similar role
Desirable

  • Experience of working within a Health and Safety role
  • Leadership experience
Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Sound knowledge of Health and safety legislation
  • Strong IT skills especially Excel / database
  • Ability to maintain excellent working relationships and rapport with colleagues
  • To maintain records accurately and to an excellent level of detail

Qualifications

  • GCSE grade C or above in English and Mathematics or equivalent
  • A full driving licence and access to a vehicle
  • IOSH Managing Safely / NEBOSH General Certificate or a Health and safety, auditing or other relevant qualification (including vocationally acquired CPD)

  • Management Level 4 (GCGI) or equivalent, auditing experience, understanding of health and safety
