who are looking to hire a Senior LCA Expert/Product Sustainability Analyst.
Department description and responsibilities
The Sustainability and ESG function supports out client's ambition to deliver transparent,
robust and credible product sustainability information across its portfolio. The team is
responsible for Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Product Carbon Footprints (PCF),
methodological governance, customer sustainability support and the rollout of portfolio level
product footprint assessments in close collaboration with the Business Units.
Project description
To ensure continuity during a maternity leave period, Umicore is looking for an experienced
LCA Expert who can immediately support ongoing delivery. You will take ownership of LCA
and PCF execution, respond to customer sustainability requests, maintain product footprint
models and actively engage Business Units in a product portfolio assessment project.
The role requires strong technical autonomy, hands on delivery capability and the ability to
operate effectively in a fast-paced, cross functional environment.
Primary Tasks & Responsibilities
LCA & Product Footprint Delivery
Run, update and interpret Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) and Product Carbon
Footprints (PCFs) (cradle to gate and cradle to grave).
Maintain, update and continuously improve product footprint and LCA models.
Review, validate and challenge data inputs from production sites, ensuring data
quality and methodological consistency.
Prepare technical documentation, calculation reports and presentations for internal
and external use.
Customer & Sustainability Support
Support customer sustainability and product footprint requests in a timely and
accurate manner.
Contribute to product sustainability assessments across the portfolio.
Provide methodological guidance on LCA, PCF and related sustainability
methodologies.
Coordinate with external reviewers or critical review panels where required.
Business Unit Engagement & Rollout
Lead outreach to Business Units to onboard them into a product portfolio assessment
project.
Explain methodology, align on data requirements and ensure consistent
implementation across businesses.
Act as a technical point of contact between Sustainability, Business Units and other
internal stakeholders.
Technical profile requirements
Essential
Strong working knowledge of ISO 14040 / ISO 14044.
Proven handson experience delivering LCAs,(cradle-to-gate and cradle-to-grave)
Solid experience with Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) calculations.
Advanced user of LCA for Experts (formerly GaBi).
Experience working with LCI databases and performing data quality reviews.
Preferred
Industry experience in metals, chemicals, batteries, manufacturing and/or recycling.
Experience supporting or participating in LCA critical reviews.
Knowledge of PEF (Product Environmental Footprint) methodology.
Familiarity with battery value chains and critical raw materials.
Understanding of EU sustainability regulations impacting product claims (e.g. EU
Battery Regulation and related delegated acts).
Broader understanding of product sustainability methodologies.
Non Technical profile requirements
5-7 years of relevant professional experience.
Proven ability to deliver LCAs and PCFs independently with limited supervision.
Strong stakeholder management skills; comfortable engaging and influencing
Business Units.
Able to manage multiple requests in parallel in a delivery driven environment.
Consulting profiles are a strong fit given the need for speed, autonomy and
adaptability.
Methodology/Certification requirements
Master's degree (or equivalent) in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline, such
as:
o Environmental Engineering
o Environmental Sciences
o Chemical Engineering
o Materials Science / Metallurgical Engineering
o Industrial Engineering
o Sustainability or Environmental Management (with strong quantitative focus)
Language proficiencies
