The Logistics & Customs Specialist will serve as the primary liaison between Dowty US operations and the corporate ITC legal team, ensuring compliance with international trade regulations and facilitating efficient import/export processes. This role involves coordinating with third-party entities, managing shipments, and supporting audit requests while maintaining a focus on compliance, process execution, and operational efficiency.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
Import Coordination:
- Collaborate with outsourced broker firms (e.g., FedEx, DHL, freight forwarders) to monitor the clearance process and act as the main point of contact for resolving issues.
- Use expertise to advise on actions or align internal resources to resolve or gather necessary information.
- Contact the ITC customs team for additional guidance when required.
- Collect and provide documentation for tariff requirements and coordinate duty-free entry processes.
- Monitor inbound shipment statuses daily, investigate additional information needs, and ensure timely resolution.
- Track inbound shipments via both automated reports and manual tracking for both internal and external customers.
- Address general import inquiries from the Dowty team and suppliers.
Export Process Execution:
- Process outbound shipments across Dowty US operations.
- Provide inputs for new or renewed export licenses for relevant individuals.
- FedEx Account Administration:
- Serve as the FedEx admin account user for Dowty US, managing user setup and account administration.
OE Shipping Coordination:
- Coordinate OE shipments from Sterling, including managing shipping request paperwork through Exostar.
Audit Support:
- Assist with audit requests from the central ITC team, ensuring compliance and providing necessary documentation.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 4 years of experience in logistics and/or customs).
Desired Characteristics
- Strong knowledge of import/export regulations, tariffs, and duty-free entry processes.
- Experience working with third-party brokers, freight forwarders, and customs teams.
- Proficiency in managing shipment tracking systems and creating export documentation.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills to liaise with internal and external stakeholders.
- Familiarity with FedEx account administration and shipping platforms like Exostar.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Background in international trade compliance or logistics.
- Experience supporting audit processes and export license applications.
