Senior Project Manager - ERP / PMO Transition

Company:NVS Group - The UK's leader in veterinary wholesale, consumables, software, and laboratory services.
Location:Stoke (3 days a week in-office)
Salary:£80k-£90k

Role Summary

NVS Group is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager with strong ERP expertiseto lead a critical IFS Cloud upgrade(currently version 7). This role will initially be hands-on in delivering the ERP upgrade in partnership with internal stakeholders (including the Change Manager), before transitioning into the Head of PMOrole.

As Head of PMO, the post-holder will establishand expand the PMO function, leading a team of Project Managers, Business Analysts, and support staff to deliver strategic change initiatives across the organisation.

This is a unique opportunity to combine hands-on ERP delivery leadershipwith the strategic responsibility of building and embedding a new PMO capability.

Key Responsibilities

Phase 1: ERP Project Delivery

  • Lead the successful delivery of the IFS Cloud upgrade, ensuring alignment with business objectives.

  • Define and deliver project scope, milestones, and budgets, securing stakeholder buy-in at each stage.

  • Ensure business requirements, resource needs, and risks are clearly identifiedand managed.

  • Collaborate closely with internal teams, external partners, and senior stakeholders to ensure seamless execution.

  • Provide clear, regular reporting to the MD and SteerCo, escalating risks and issues as appropriate.

Phase 2: Transition to Head of PMO

Once the ERP upgrade is successfully delivered, the role evolves into Head of PMOwith the following responsibilities:

Leadership & PMO Establishment

  • Build, lead, and inspire a high-performing PMO team, including Project Managers, Business Analysts, and Admin support (perm and contract).

  • Define and embed NVS Group project management standards, governance, and reporting processes.

  • Oversee resource allocation, balancing capacityand capability across multiple projects.

  • Mentor and develop PMO staff, creating a culture of accountability and collaboration.

Project & Portfolio Oversight

  • Implement and manage efficient project and portfolio management practices (PM3).

  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to agreed business outcomes.

  • Act as the escalation point for project risks, issues, and dependencies.

  • Oversee project budgets and resource management, escalating concerns to the MD/SteerCowhere appropriate.

Change Management

  • Drive organisational change initiatives, embedding new processes, technology, and behaviours.

  • Partner with the SteerCoto secure stakeholder buy-in and manage resistance to change.

  • Create and implement communication and training plans to support adoption.

  • Foster a culture of change readiness and adaptability.

Stakeholder Management & Continuous Improvement

  • Act as a trusted partner to senior leaders, ensuring alignment between business priorities and PMO delivery.

  • Champion continuous improvement, integrating lessons learned to refine PMO processes and governance.

  • Build strong internal and external stakeholder relationships to drive business value.

Essential Experience

  • Proven experience leading large-scale ERP implementations(ideally IFS).

  • Strong business focus(business processes, functionality, commercial outcomes) rather than purely technical delivery.

  • Experience working with Project Portfolio Management (PPM) software(ideally PM3).

  • Demonstrated knowledge of how a PMO function operates, ideally with experience building or scaling a PMO.

  • Strong leadership and communication skills - able to influence at all levels, including board/SteerCo.

  • Hands-on delivery experience with the ability to balance operational detail with strategic vision.

  • Availability to start within a short notice period (cannot accommodate 3-month notice).

Desirable Experience

  • Experience in wholesale, warehouse, supply chain, or distribution environments.

  • Exposure to veterinary, healthcare, or related industries.

  • Relevant certifications: PRINCE2, MSP, PMP, or equivalent.
