We are seeking an experienced Construction Manager with a strong electrical background to lead and deliver complex construction projects. This role will oversee all stages of the construction lifecycle, from initial planning through to completion, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, excellent project management capability, and proven experience within electrical infrastructure projects, including substations and/or Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
Duties and Responsibilities
• Lead and manage construction projects from inception to completion, ensuring delivery to programme, budget, and quality requirements.
• Coordinate and supervise all site activities, including subcontractors, suppliers, and site-based personnel.
• Develop, manage, and maintain detailed project programmes, ensuring key milestones and deadlines are achieved.
• Monitor construction progress and proactively implement corrective actions where required to meet project objectives.
• Manage project budgets, track costs, and provide accurate financial reporting to internal and external stakeholders.
• Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contractual documentation to ensure full compliance.
• Oversee procurement of materials, plant, and services, ensuring cost efficiency and timely delivery.
• Implement, monitor, and enforce health, safety, and environmental procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
• Act as the primary point of contact for clients, engineers, consultants, and other stakeholders, resolving issues and maintaining strong working relationships.
• Carry out regular site inspections to assess quality, progress, and compliance with specifications, standards, and regulations.
• Prepare and maintain comprehensive project documentation, including progress reports, change control, and meeting records.
• Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to site teams, promoting a positive and productive site culture.
• Ensure all works comply with relevant building regulations, electrical standards, and industry best practice.
• Manage relationships with local authorities, utility providers, regulators, and third-party stakeholders.
• Attend and contribute to project meetings, design reviews, and client presentations as required.
Skills and Experience
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
• Demonstrable experience in a Construction Manager role, preferably within electrical infrastructure projects.
• Proven experience delivering electrical substations and/or Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects is essential/desirable (adjust as needed) .
• Strong understanding of electrical construction methods, techniques, and materials.
• Excellent project management skills with the ability to plan, organise, and prioritise effectively.
• Strong leadership capability with experience managing multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Solid knowledge of health & safety legislation, electrical standards, and building regulations.
• Ability to perform effectively under pressure and manage changing priorities and deadlines.
• Professional accreditation or certification (e.g. CIOB, PRINCE2, APM) is advantageous but not essential.
• Experience working within a DNO / ICP environment is desirable.
