Assessment Centre
Successful candidates will be invited to attend an in-person Assessment Centre at our Manchester office. This is an opportunity for us to get to know you and for you to learn more about Network Rail and our Shared Services environment.
Talent Pool
If you pass the assessment but cannot attend an Assessment Centre, or attend but no suitable role is available, you may be placed in our Talent Pool and contacted when suitable future opportunities arise.

Brief Description

Network Rail Shared Services (NRSS) brings together several specialist teams that support Network Rail's people, processes and operations:
- Professional Services manages key non - transactional activities such as payments, customer debt collection and taxation, alongside Payroll, which ensures our 44,000+ employees are paid accurately and on time.
- Business Support delivers core transactional processing, including maintaining personnel data, organisational changes, recruitment activity and handling invoice requests.
- Our Service Delivery team provides customer focused query resolution for all back - office functions, and Operations Management underpins the whole service by overseeing day - to - day operations and driving efficient, controlled process improvements.

About the role (External)
Join Our Shared Services Team!
- Location: Manchester City Centre, Square One
- Salary: £24,479 per annum (Band 6)
- Hours: Full time, 35 hours per week
- Contract Type: Permanent and/or fixed term opportunities
- W orking Pattern: Hybrid - minimum 3 days per week in the office
- Closing Date: midnight on Wednesday 11th February 2026
What you'll be doing:
- Providing high quality administrative and operational support to our central and national functional business areas
- Responding to customer and stakeholder queries in a timely and professional manner
- Maintaining accurate records, systems, and data
- Supporting projects, service improvements and process changes
- Working collaboratively to meet service level agreements (SLAs)
- Handling confidential information in line with policies and procedures
- Identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and customer experience
What we're looking for:

- Strong customer service and communication skills, both written and verbal
- Demonstrable ability to produce precise, accurate work
- Ability to focus on attention to detail and quality in tasks
- Strong organisational skills
- Ability to manage time effectively and prioritise workloads
- Confidence using IT systems and Microsoft Office applications
- A proactive, adaptable approach to work
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
- Commitment to accuracy, confidentiality, and following processes
- Ability to work in a high-volume processing environment
