General ManagementJob Description
What if you could shape a career as unique as you?
At WSP, you can always find opportunities to grow and do what matters to you. Make the most of our global reach to discover new challenges and chances to work with diverse, talented individuals who will help you expand your horizons.
A little more about your role...
As a NEC Project Manager at WSP, you will take the lead in managing a variety of highways and infrastructure projects for our client in Gloucestershire. You will be joining our team at the start of WSP's long-term professional services contract with Gloucestershire County Council (GCC). Under this collaborative arrangement, we work from the client's office, directly supporting their teams and delivering shared objectives. Your time will predominantly on Construction Sites with occasional visits to GCC offices at Shire Hall, Gloucester.
You will work within a team of established professionals with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the management of highways related construction in the county. You will be further supported by colleagues from across WSP who provide additional resources and specialist expertise to deliver high quality services.
GCC is committing considerable investment in maintaining and improving their highways network. This investment has increased in 2025/26 with additional investment in bridges and geotechnical programmes. In addition to the annual programme of construction projects, the Council has been very successful in securing Government and other funding to deliver active travel and major projects across the county. Your team would be heavily involved in the construction of Highways Improvement projects including the Gloucestershire Cycle Spine which provides the challenge of working in some constrained city locations, and the upcoming M5 Junction 10 which is a £250m investment in infrastructure to support growth.
As a NEC Project Manager, you will play a vital role by discharging duties under the NEC Contract while working with and leading our on-site Supervisors and Quantity Surveyors. You will use your construction knowledge to verify that work is delivered in accordance with the Contract and Works Scope. You will also manage Defects, Early Warnings and Compensation Events.
If you have a passion for NEC contract management, project leadership, and delivering projects that make a real difference to local communities, we would like to hear from you.
Your Responsibilities
• Lead NEC contract administration and project management processes, ensuring compliance with NEC4 requirements and best practice.
• Act as Project Manager under NEC contracts, issuing instructions, managing early warnings, and maintaining accurate records.
• Prioritise client satisfaction by building strong relationships with GCC, Contractors and fostering collaboration with colleagues for effective delivery.
• Manage resources effectively (including remote teams) to meet fluctuating workloads.
• Work with clients and design teams to deliver compliant designs on time, within budget, and in line with H&S, CDM, QA, and technical review requirements.
• Produce project control reports and maintain robust programme management.
• Agree commercial position on projects, including forecasting and cost control.
• Ensure invoicing is undertaken in accordance with the Contract
What We're Looking For
• Proven experience in the Highways/Infrastructure sector, with a strong background in NEC contract management.
• Experience in managing NEC contract processes, including early warnings, compensation events, and programme updates.
• Strong organisational and communication skills.
• Knowledge of Construction Design Management (CDM) 2015 and associated duties.
• Financial and commercial awareness, with experience in project and resource management.
• NEC4 accreditation or qualification highly desirable.
Don't quite meet all the criteria? Apply, and we can see how your experience aligns to this role and other opportunities within the team.
