Join our Power Transmission and Distribution team as a site based Construction Manager (Enabling Works) on the Beauly to Peterhead 400kV project, which is currently one of the UK's largest infrastructure projects.
This role will lead the delivery of major enabling works packages across a large geographic area between Inverness and Peterhead and the successful candidate will play a key role in establishing sites, infrastructure and logistics that enable the wider construction programme. The Construction Manager will initially report to the Senior Project Manager until other roles are in place and will work closely with Project Managers and Client representatives to safely deliver early works across multiple work fronts.
As a Construction Manager you'll:
• Support the Project Managers in their responsibility for overall profit and loss of a standard or major project whilst ensuring the highest standards of safety, sustainability, environmental and quality are implemented
• Promote a collaborative working environment which ensures client, internal and other stakeholders' requirements are effectively managed, and employees feel motivated and engaged to deliver
What you'll be doing
Lead the safe and efficient delivery of enabling works across multiple sites, including:
Site establishment, compounds and welfare facilities
• Access tracks and logistics routes across remote terrain
• Earthworks, drainage and civil infrastructure where appropriate
• Temporary works and traffic management
• Environmental and sustainability mitigation measures
• Coordination of early works ahead of the main construction activities and then removal post works
Core responsibilities:
• Lead and manage Site Engineers and Project Engineers across multiple work fronts
• Manage and coordinate multiple subcontractors and suppliers
• Plan works, resources, plant and logistics to meet programme requirements
• Drive programme performance and remove delivery constraints
• Ensure strong safety leadership and high standards of environmental compliance
• Work closely with Project Managers and Site / Project Engineers to manage risk, cost and programme performance
• Interface with the Client's Construction Managers and Project Managers as required
• Oversee quality assurance and ensure works meet engineering standards
• Promote a collaborative, high-performance delivery culture across site team
• Ensure that all work are carried out according to required Contractual standards and be responsible for effective liaison and collaboration with Roads Authorities, Local Authorities and other Utilities providers etc.
• Ensure the project is delivered on time and on budget by setting benchmarks, agreeing budgets and monitoring progress
• Check design documents
• Responsible for a working environment which ensures the achievement of all safety and environment legislation, engineering and customer standards.

Essential:
• Proven experience delivering major civil engineering / infrastructure projects
• Strong leadership and people management experience
• Experience managing multiple subcontractors and engineering teams
• Experience delivering works across large or geographically dispersed sites
• Strong understanding of construction planning, logistics and temporary works
• Experience working under NEC or similar forms of contract
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
• Commercial awareness and ability to support programme and cost control
• Full UK driving licence
Desirable:
• Experience in utilities, power, rail, highways or large infrastructure projects
• Degree in Civil Engineering or similar discipline
• APM or equivalent project management qualification
