The Division of Library, Culture & Heritage is seeking a proactive, highly motivated, and creative professional for the role of Project Manager, Cultural Prospectus for Sussex who will be based in the University of Sussex Library. The role holder will co-ordinate a Cultural Prospectus for Sussex MCCA, an Arts Council England South East Investment Funded project. The purpose of the project is to present a clear story of the value, importance and potential of culture across East Sussex, West Sussex and Brighton & Hove in preparation for the creation of the Mayoral Combined County Authority.
Key tasks will include providing excellent project management to manage and coordinate the content, production and sharing of a Sussex Cultural Prospectus within an agreed timeframe and budget and working in collaboration with cultural and local authority stakeholders and other partners outside of the cultural community.
About you
The successful candidate will be curious and enquiring with excellent creative problem-solving abilities and have an interest in the creative and culture sector, well-developed interpersonal skills, and an ability to communicate effectively and persuasively to influence and negotiate. You will be self-motivated and able to take initiative to deliver this project.
An in-depth knowledge of the arts and culture sector, ideally across Sussex, along with experience and an ability to demonstrate ability in the following areas would be an advantage:
• Effective and strategic project management
• Effective communications planning and delivery
• Ability to work productively with diverse and multiple stakeholders including local authority partners, cultural organisations and freelance creative workers
• Working with budgets and experience of financial management
• Public participation in arts and cultural engagement
• Practice in cultural and/or creative organisations or networks
About our Division
The Library, Culture & Heritage Division was established in 2024, consisting of the University of Sussex Library, the Keep archive service (in partnership with East Sussex County Council and Brighton & Hove City Council) and Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts - a multi-disciplinary arts centre. The newly formed Division is currently developing its strategic plan, making it an exciting time to join us.
Founded in 1961, the University Library is an important research facility in the UK with exceptional services and internationally significant collections. Today the Library is far more than a building and a collection of printed materials. It plays a central role in the creation, publication, application and preservation of knowledge and research at our thriving University.
As a crucial partner in the University's learning and research agendas, the Library constantly seeks ways to be as closely connected as possible to the changing nature of the work of Schools to contribute fully to the enrichment of the lives of their students and the advancement of their research.
