Here at Serco, we deliver vital services that make a real difference to people and communities. We are now looking for an experienced Project Manager to join our Professional Services (ProServ) team, providing project management capability and assignment oversight across a portfolio of customer-facing projects.

You will take full responsibility for the end-to-end delivery of predominantly medium-sized projects, ensuring they are planned, governed and delivered to agreed quality, cost, time and performance standards. Working within recognised project management methodologies (e.g. PRINCE2, Agile), you will ensure robust governance, effective stakeholder engagement and strong financial control throughout the project lifecycle.

You will also work collaboratively across the ProServ service, supporting Customer, Professional Employment and Skills (CPES) to ensure projects are appropriately resourced and successfully transitioned into service.

As part of this you'll:
  • Manage medium-sized projects from initiation through to successful completion.
  • Own delivery against agreed scope, quality, cost, time and resource constraints, as defined in approved proposals (PID or equivalent).
  • Maintain realistic project plans, monitor progress and initiate corrective action where required.
  • Directly manage project teams and third-party suppliers (where applicable).
  • Ensure all changes to scope, cost, time or quality are formally agreed with Serco and customer stakeholders and documented appropriately.
  • Lead effective stakeholder engagement, including chairing Project Boards and providing clear, accurate and timely communications.
  • Ensure project delivery and reporting complies with PMO, corporate and client governance requirements.
  • Manage project costs proactively, escalating risks and issues where necessary.
  • Lead handover to service activities, including operational impact assessments, transition plans and service-line sign-off to ensure acceptance into service with no disruption.
  • Manage project budgets and provide accurate financial reporting in line with the Serco financial cycle.
  • Matrix-manage project resources on a project-by-project basis.
  • Provide effective leadership to project teams, addressing performance issues and ensuring delivery within agreed tolerances.

What you'll need to do the role:
  • Demonstrable experience delivering successful projects using recognised project management methodologies.
  • One or more industry-recognised project management qualifications (e.g. PRINCE2, APMP, PMI/APM, Agile) is highly desirable.
  • Strong commercial and risk awareness, with the ability to proactively manage exposure.
  • Sound knowledge of risk management techniques and their practical application.
  • Broad understanding of business change delivery.
  • Proven experience managing multiple project or programme workstreams within budget and timescale.
  • Experience using project management tools such as MS Project.
  • Strong understanding of project governance, controls and assurance.
  • Commitment to continuous personal and professional development.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to understand and respond to customer needs.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with customers, suppliers and internal teams.
