Salary: £35,451 - £39,165 per annum (pro rata for part time)

Working Hours: 37 hours per week

Contract Type: Permanent

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Project Manager to join our Transport Projects & Programmes team within the Environment and Transport Department. This role will sit within a sub-team which supports the management of the Department's capital programme. The role will have a particular focus on financial planning and management, improving the quality of our monthly and yearly reporting, and developing our forecasting as part of our four-year consolidated funding allocation from the Department for Transport.

The successful applicant will join a motivated, friendly team of professionals committed to delivering public sector highway projects and programmes that offer best value for money.

About the Role
  • You will assist the Senior Project Manager with the project management, development and delivery of improvement programmes and projects, including project governance and reporting, consultations, financial and monitoring agreements, to ensure that schemes are delivered to time, quality and cost.
  • You will play a key co-ordination role, working closely with our finance team to improve our reporting and management of project, programme and team finances, supporting effective partnerships and working relationships with other internal teams.
  • You will support the development of our internal processes for effective resource management, including how we recharge staff time against projects, and how we forecast project costings accurately. You will have responsibility for protecting and managing information securely.
  • You will support the performance management of services and teams through contributing to the departmental business planning process as required, and ensuring activities are delivered in the most efficient and effective manner as possible.

About You

To apply for this post, you must be able to evidence in your application how you meet the following criteria:
  • A relevant qualification and/or demonstrable experience commensurate with the role through working in management or administrative processes, or a BTEC in Civil Engineering or equivalent qualification
  • Experience of managing and reporting financial information to support the delivery of projects and programmes.
  • Experience of working in a commercial environment and delivering projects and programmes to time, quality and cost, ensuring activities are delivered in the most efficient and effective manner as possible.
  • Experience of maintaining effective partnerships and working relationships with internal and external stakeholders which can include statutory, voluntary, private agencies and communities.
  • Good IT skills, including the ability to learn the use of service specific systems and software.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and report writing skills, with experience interpreting and writing reports and assisting with the preparation of project management documentation.
  • Strong planning, analytical and organisational skills, with the ability to work to tight timescales and to agreed targets.
