About the role

We are recruiting a Senior Project Manager to lead a major cross-country civils and cabling programme in South Lincolnshire / Boston, delivered as part of National Grid's c. £59bn HVDC supply chain framework.

As Senior Project Manager, you will hold full accountability for performance from project initiation through to commissioning and handover - controlling budget, programme, risk and quality across a complex, high-value portfolio of works. You will set strategic direction, challenge delivery assumptions and determine the most effective route to meet customer requirements within demanding time and commercial constraints.

What you'll be doing
  • Full end-to-end accountability for delivery of major cross-country civils and 52kV cable installation works
  • Leading Project Managers, engineering leads and functional heads to drive coordinated, high-performing cross-functional teams
  • Owning overall budget performance, ensuring rigorous cost control, forecasting accuracy and effective change management
  • Setting strategic direction for procurement, subcontract packaging and supply chain performance
  • Leading a relentless Zero Harm culture, reviewing and approving RAMS and ensuring legislative compliance across dispersed work fronts
  • Driving structured risk and opportunity management and maintaining executive oversight of the Risk Register
  • Overseeing governance requirements, project reviews and digital reporting standards
  • Developing and maintaining resource-loaded programmes and allocation strategies across multiple delivery sections
  • Managing senior stakeholder relationships including client representatives and framework partners
  • Overseeing quality assurance, KPI performance and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Coaching and mentoring Project Managers, strengthening capability and succession within the team
Who we're looking for

You will be a senior delivery leader with:
  • Significant experience delivering large-scale cabling projects within civils and power transmission environments
  • Strong background across HVDC, transmission & distribution, substations or major cable installation schemes
  • Flexibility to be on site 5 x days per week
  • Demonstrable experience delivering complex cross-country or linear infrastructure projects
  • Proven capability leading large, multi-disciplinary and cross-functional teams in technically demanding environments
  • A consistent track record of full lifecycle delivery with direct budget ownership on high-value programmes
  • In-depth understanding of standard forms of contract and commercial strategy
  • Strong financial acumen with the ability to control cost, manage change and drive accurate reporting
  • Experience implementing robust governance, risk and scope control processes
  • A record of driving high safety standards in high-risk operational settings
  • The presence and credibility to influence senior stakeholders and present with authority
  • Experience developing Project Managers and future leaders
  • Membership of a professional body (e.g. APM)
  • A valid UK driving licence
