Key Information

Role: Project Management Assistant

Salary: circa £28,000 per annum depending on experience

Location: York, Leeds or Manchester

Contract Type: 12 months secondment opportunity

Office Requirement: Hybrid, 3 days minimum in the office

28 days annual leave + bank holidays

Transpennine Route Upgrade

The Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) is a Programme of activities that is improving the railway between York and Manchester via Leeds and Huddersfield.

Stretching across the North of England, this key 76-mile Transpennine railway serves 23 stations, crosses over and dips under 285 bridges and viaducts, passes through six miles of tunnels, and crosses over 29 level crossings.

Proposed improvements as will deliver a hard-working, reliable railway for passengers, allowing for trains with more seats, more services and faster journey times.

Brief Description

This position will support the Chief Engineers team in their role to provide functional leadership of engineering and construction activity across the TRU Programme. It supports the Chief Engineer and their deputy in the production of reports, organisation of events, preparation for meetings and many other tasks to keep the team running smoothly. The role will provide an excellent grounding in the engineering systems and processes required to deliver a major railway programme.

About the role (External)

Some of the key accountabilities of this role are:

1. Work as part of the TRU Engineering Team, assisting in delivery of projects to time, cost and quality through various phases in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.

2. Monitor and report programme and progress in accordance with project reporting systems and guidelines.

3. Develop and integrate, effective support systems to enable the TRU Chief Engineer & Senior Programme Engineering Manager to manage and control change.

4. Monitor performance indicators and provide periodic progress reports.

5. Support the TRU Engineering Team in providing a safe working environment at all times during the execution of those projects under their responsibility.

6. Ensure data is accurately tracked, consistent and concise to support informed forward planning and decision-making within the team.

7. Produce Presentation packs for all Engineering Meetings in a timely manner
We need you to have:

• Some management experience including project management.

• Educated to HND/HNC or similar standard.

• HSQE awareness, issues and principles.
It would be advantageous if you have:

• Membership (or working towards membership of) the Association for Project Management.

• A degree or equivalent.

• Knowledge of safety, quality, environmental, commercial and financial aspects.
