About the role

Balfour Beatty is looking for an experienced Construction Manager to join our Power portfolio, supporting the delivery of multi-utility diversion works on the Lower Thames Crossing - Roads North of the Thames (RNOT) programme.

This is a critical enabling role on one of the UK's most significant infrastructure projects. Before highways, structures and major earthworks can begin, major utilities across the route must be safely relocated or protected. These works include electricity, gas, water, wastewater and telecoms assets, and they form a key part of unlocking the wider construction programme.

As Construction Manager, you'll be responsible for planning, managing and delivering site activities across multiple zones, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with programme requirements. You'll work closely with project teams, designers, subcontractors and Statutory Undertakers, coordinating both contestable and non-contestable works to ensure uninterrupted services to the public while enabling construction progress.

The role is site-based at the LTC compound in Grays, with the expectation of being on site five days per week and moving between zones as the programme progresses.

What you'll be doing
  • Leading and coordinating multi-utility construction activities across electricity, gas, water, wastewater and telecoms diversions
  • Managing site teams including Site Managers, Engineers and Supervisors
  • Planning works, sequencing construction and ensuring delivery to programme
  • Engaging with Statutory Undertakers, local authorities and asset owners to coordinate outages, access and compliance requirements
  • Ensuring full compliance with health, safety and environmental standards, maintaining a relentless focus on Zero Harm
  • Reviewing and approving RAMS, monitoring site safety and driving behavioural safety initiatives
  • Overseeing buildability assessments and implementing technical information into delivery
  • Managing resources, plant and logistics to drive productivity and quality
  • Maintaining accurate project records, reporting progress and supporting project governance
  • Supporting the coordination of enabling works that unlock the highways and structures programme
Who we're looking for
  • Proven experience delivering utility or infrastructure construction works
  • Experience managing teams on complex construction or infrastructure projects
  • Multi-utility experience (electricity, gas, water, wastewater or telecoms) or strong expertise in one utility discipline with knowledge of others
  • Strong knowledge of site safety, RAMS and construction governance
  • Ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders including subcontractors and statutory asset owners
  • Experience working in programme-driven environments where sequencing and coordination are critical
This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in delivering critical enabling works on one of the UK's most high-profile infrastructure programmes.
