The Department of Public Health and Health Policy aims to improve and protect the health of people in Lothian as part of a whole system approach to public health in Scotland.
The department is organised around Population Health and Health Protection. The post-holders will work within a Population Health Team which involves place-based working focusing on partnership, prevention, and inequalities.
The post holder will be responsible for working with pharmacy key stakeholders across Lothian to develop, implement and evaluate health improvement and inequalities focused on tobacco control plan. The role has budget and line management responsibilities.
Smoking remains the leading cause of preventable illness and premature death. Reducing the harms from smoking is a key priority for Scotland as we work towards a smokefree nation over the next decade. NHS Lothian is seeking a number of dynamic individuals to join the Quit Your Way team and help us improve our performance to support people to quit smoking and live longer lives in better health.
The recent performance review provides a framework of actions for you to lead on in this role and drive quality improvement; for example, joint working with community pharmacy is key to improve our outcomes as a Board against our national cessation target.
Transferable knowledge and skills are key. An understanding of wider health improvement principles and practice or experience of related issues and policy are welcome. A sound understanding of tobacco control is helpful but can be gained over time as you progress in the role.
Leading the development of the pharmacy work and improving outcomes will be the initial focus of the full time post. Establishing productive relationships with a range of stakeholders is key to increasing successful engagement with cessation services.
The post is full time and leads the Lothian wide pharmacy team as well as contributing to the wider NHS Lothian tobacco control effort.

This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post.
