Overview

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Construction Manager with a strong civils and building background to join the team delivering the ASTI (Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment) substation builds at our Netherton Hub in Peterhead.

These nationally significant projects support the UK's transition to renewable energy and the reinforcement of the transmission network across Scotland. You will play a pivotal role in delivering complex new substation infrastructure-managing both major civils works and specialist building construction phases on a high-profile, multi-discipline technical project.

About the ASTI Projects - Netherton Hub

The ASTI programme is a key enabler for future energy security and net-zero infrastructure. At Peterhead, Balfour Beatty is constructing new substation assets comprising:

  • Complex building construction including control buildings, switchrooms, welfare assets, and specialist structures supporting advanced electrical equipment
  • Works delivered in a high-certainty, highly regulated environment with safety, quality, and programme efficiency at the forefront
The dual nature of this project requires a Construction Manager who is equally comfortable leading both civils delivery teams and building construction teams, ensuring full integration across programme, logistics, design, and technical compliance.

  • Lead pre-start meetings, supply chain mobilisation, and safe systems of work
  • Contribute to sustainability targets, environmental stewardship, and zero-harm initiatives
Civils & Build Delivery
  • Lead day-to-day construction across major civils (RC works, earthworks, drainage) and building elements (control rooms, structural works, architectural finishes)
  • Oversee sequencing, integration and delivery of heavy civils alongside building construction packages
  • Resolve technical constraints using planning tools and 3D modelling
  • Ensure works are delivered in alignment with ERs, specifications, and design developments
Programme & Production Control
  • Own the delivery of programme milestones for assigned work packages
  • Drive short-interval control, progress reporting, risk identification, and mitigation
  • Ensure clear communication between planners, engineering, design management, and site teams
  • Maintain excellence in site records, reporting, and operational discipline
Commercial & Contractual
  • Understand supply chain scopes, contract responsibilities, and commercial drivers
  • Support commercial teams in monitoring cost, progress, and change
  • Engage in contractual discussions, procurement decisions, and efficient supply chain management
  • Maintain robust documentation to support claims, delays, and change events
Logistics & Resource Management
  • Lead interface for logistics planning, plant allocation, and resource coordination
  • Oversee site mobilisation, access planning, deliveries, and waste removal
  • Ensure operations are fully aligned to site constraints and programme priorities
  • Develop and mentor construction teams, fostering capability and competency growth
