General Manager – Logistics

Overview
We are seeking an experienced General Manager to lead and manage branch operations, sales, and overall performance. The role focuses on ensuring efficient handling of shipments, achieving revenue and profit targets, maintaining high customer service standards, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and company policies.
Role Summary
The General Manager is responsible for developing business strategies, managing staff, optimising operational processes, and building strong relationships with clients, carriers, and service providers to support the branch’s growth and profitability.
Key Responsibilities
Branch Management
- Develop and manage the branch to achieve yearly budgeted revenue and profitability
- Oversee branch operations, including warehousing, transportation, customs clearance, and other logistics services
- Set objectives, define targets, and ensure they are met across departments
- Ensure smooth coordination between operations, sales, and customer service to meet customer requirements
Team Leadership
- Lead, motivate, and train branch staff in operations, sales, customer service, and logistics
- Develop performance metrics, conduct appraisals, and create development plans for team members
- Foster a positive work environment to enhance teamwork and productivity
Operational Efficiency
- Manage end-to-end freight forwarding processes, from receiving customer orders to final delivery
- Coordinate with transportation partners, customs, and warehouse teams to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery
- Implement best practices and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to streamline operations
Customer Relationship Management
- Act as the primary point of contact for key clients
- Resolve customer complaints or issues related to shipments and services
- Build and maintain long-term client relationships to secure repeat business
Financial Management
- Analyse operational costs, revenue, and profitability to ensure financial sustainability
- Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives in coordination with senior management
Compliance and Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with international shipping regulations, local laws, and company policies
- Stay up-to-date with changes in trade laws, tariffs, and regulations
- Implement safety protocols for handling cargo, including hazardous or sensitive goods
Sales and Business Development
- Work with the sales team to identify new business opportunities and grow the client base
- Collaborate with marketing to promote services and enhance brand presence
- Negotiate contracts to maintain profitability while offering competitive pricing
Technology Integration
- Utilise freight forwarding software to track shipments, manage inventory, and provide real-time client updates
- Leverage technology for data analysis, route optimisation, and operational reporting
Reporting and Strategic Planning
- Provide regular performance updates to senior management
- Prepare and analyse reports on operational metrics, customer satisfaction, and financial performance
- Contribute to long-term strategic planning to expand branch capabilities and improve service delivery
Candidate Requirements
- Proven experience in logistics management, freight forwarding, or supply chain operations
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Excellent operational, financial, and commercial acumen
- Familiarity with international shipping regulations and compliance requirements
- Strong communication and negotiation skills
- Experience in integrating technology to improve operational efficiency
