The University of Cambridge's School of Technology is seeking a collaborative and organised Project Manager to support and coordinate its preparations for the UK national Research Excellence Framework exercise, REF 2029. This influential role offers an exceptional opportunity to shape and drive submissions from Units of Assessment (UoAs) across the School of Technology at one of the world's most prestigious universities.

You will play a central part in planning and delivering REF activity across the School's three Units of Assessment, while also providing dedicated support to the multi-department and cross-School Unit of Assessment, Engineering (UoA12). This mix of School-level coordination and hands-on responsibility within a major UoA offers a rare opportunity to work both strategically and operationally on a high-profile area of institutional importance.

What you will do

As an enthusiastic, flexible and resourceful project manager, you will work in close partnership with REF academic and administrative leads across the School to shape an effective, well-managed and competitive REF submission by:
  • Leading and coordinating the planning of REF activity across the School's Units of Assessment
  • Acting as a key point of contact between relevant academic and administrative teams, including School leadership, UoA Chairs, departmental teams and the central REF office. Ensuring effective, relevant and timely communication suited to the various stakeholders.
  • Advising colleagues on REF policy, eligibility, Open Access compliance and evolving guidance
  • Supporting UoA12 with outputs, impact case studies, SPRE statements and committee work
  • Ensuring robust systems for evidence, data management and auditability
  • Monitoring progress and risks; sharing good practice across the School
  • Managing and developing the administrative team supporting UoA12

What you will bring

We are looking for someone who enjoys complex, multi-stakeholder work and who can balance detail with broader organisational perspective. You will bring:
  • Strong project-management experience, preferably in a higher education environment
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence working with senior academic colleagues
  • A proactive, organised approach, with excellent attention to detail
  • Strong IT skills and the ability to learn new systems quickly
  • Experience of previous REF cycles (desirable)
  • Experience managing or supervising staff (desirable)
