Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to join our Cancer Services Project Team, within the Corporate Division of Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Trust (WUTH) as an Cancer Assistant Project Manager.

Regionally, the Cheshire and Merseyside Cancer Alliance (CMCA) leads the delivery of the National Cancer Plan for England's ambitions for cancer across our local system with the aim of improving outcomes for patients and improving performance against key operational standards.

The Cancer Assistant Project Manager will support the delivery of a portfolio of cancer transformation and improvement projects across the Trust. The post holder will contribute to the development and delivery of projects aligned with CMCA and national NHS priorities and Trust objectives.

The role will require close collaboration with clinical, operational and corporate colleagues across the organisation.

The Cancer Assistant Project Manager may lead on discrete projects or individual workstreams under the guidance of the Cancer Project Manager and wider Cancer Services Team.

The role will be based at Clatterbridge Hospital but will involve cross-site working between Clatterbridge Hospital and Arrowe Park Hospital.

The working pattern will be Monday to Friday, 7.5 hours per day, 8:30am to 4:30pm. Each day will include a half hour unpaid break.

Secondments will be considered but applicants must seek their current line managers approval before applying for the role.

Main duties of the job

The Cancer Assistant Project Manager will support the delivery of cancer service improvement and transformation projects across the Trust, working closely within the Cancer Services Team and under the guidance of the Cancer Project Manager.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Supporting the planning and delivery of cancer service improvement and transformation projects aligned to Trust and national priorities.
  • Contributing to pathway optimisation and service redesign initiatives aimed at improving patient outcomes, patient experience, quality and safety, while supporting efficient and sustainable service delivery.
  • Leading on discrete projects or individual workstreams under the guidance of the Cancer Services Team, taking ownership for delivery against agreed objectives, timelines and governance arrangements.
  • Working collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders across clinical, operational and corporate teams to support the successful implementation of improvement initiatives.
  • Facilitating meetings, workshops and stakeholder engagement activities to support project delivery and service improvement.
  • Monitoring project progress and supporting the identification and resolution of risks, issues and barriers to delivery.
  • Gathering, analysing and interpreting information to support decision making, track project performance and identify opportunities for improvement and efficiency.

Person specification

Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training

Essential criteria
  • Educated to post graduate degree level in healthcare, management or a relevant field, or has significant relevant experience.
  • Experience of involvement in project / improvement work and/or administering programme management office environment.

Desirable criteria
  • Change management qualification or equivalent experiential learning and a willingness to undertake training such as: Project/Programme management qualifications such as Prince 2 or Managing Successful Programmes (MSP).
  • Experience of working with a wide range of stakeholders as part of change programme structures.
  • Experience within and Acute Hospital working with a range of Clinicians and Operational Managers as part of change programme structures.

DBS Information

Trust policy requires that the cost of submitting & processing a DBS application is met by the successful applicant/s. DBS costs are recovered via salary deduction following starting in post.

If the post you are applying for requires a DBS - Inline with Trust policy the cost of submitting and processing a DBS for successful applications would be met by the individual themselves. The amount would vary depending on the level required: Standard Disclosure £21.50+£6.50 or Enhanced Disclosure £49.50+£6.50 (please be aware the additional sum is an administration fee and may increase due to inflation). This will be deducted from your salary, in manageable monthly instalments for up to 3 months following commencement of employment.
