The role
We are offering a project focused internship for an undergraduate interested in construction project management, commercial management, or quantity surveying. This hands on role provides exposure to real project environments, supporting both the commercial and project delivery teams throughout the full lifecycle of live schemes. You'll gain practical experience across cost control, project coordination, procurement, and site delivery - ideal for students seeking applied industry experience within a dynamic construction business. Key responsibilities include:

Project Support
  • Assist in coordinating project activities across design, manufacture, and site delivery.
  • Attend project meetings and site visits to observe progress and contribute to reporting.
  • Help maintain project documentation, schedules, and progress trackers.

Commercial & Cost Management
  • Support with preparing basic cost plans and tracking spend against budgets.
  • Review and compare supplier and subcontractor quotations.
  • Assist in monitoring variations, financial updates, and commercial reporting.

Procurement & Supply Chain
  • Help with procuring materials and subcontract packages under guidance.
  • Maintain procurement logs and follow up with suppliers to track lead times and deliveries

Systems & Reporting
  • Use internal project management systems (e.g., Softools) to support tracking of:
    • Costs
    • Programme progress
    • Tasks and workflows
    • Risks and actions
  • Contribute ideas to streamline internal processes and improve project reporting.

Person spec
  • Undergraduate degree (or working towards) in:
    • Quantity Surveying
    • Construction Management
    • Commercial Management
    • Or a related discipline
  • Strong attention to detail and accurate numerical skills.
  • Financially literate with a basic understanding of costs vs revenue, profit and margin, budget tracking, cost plans, supplier quotes, and spend vs budget reports.
  • Clear written communication for emails, notes, and reports.
  • Confident communicator with ability to engage with team members, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Organised, methodical, and able to manage multiple tasks.
  • Proactive, eager to learn, and comfortable asking questions.
  • Competent in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Comfortable learning new digital tools and systems.

Commercial & QS Skills
  • Practical experience in cost planning, procurement, and financial management
  • Understanding of live project cost control and reporting
  • Exposure to real-world contract administration and variations

Project Management Skills
  • End-to-end understanding of project delivery in construction
  • Experience coordinating multiple stakeholders across live projects
  • Ability to manage programme, cost, and quality simultaneously

Technical & Systems Knowledge
  • Hands-on experience using digital project management systems (Softools)
  • Understanding of data-driven project reporting and performance tracking
  • Exposure to modern construction workflows and processes

Industry Exposure
  • Experience working on hospitality, retail, and commercial projects
  • Direct involvement with clients, consultants, and contractors
  • Insight into both consultancy and main contractor environments
