We are looking for an experienced Project Manager to join our Consultancy business unit. This role sits within the Operations team and supports the delivery of projects across Natural Capital, Water & Environment and Design disciplines. You will play a key role in ensuring projects are delivered safely, to a high standard, on programme and with strong commercial performance (SQTC).
The Role
As Project Manager, you will be responsible for the planning, management and coordination of a diverse portfolio of consultancy projects. These include ecological design, habitat creation, river and water restoration, Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) schemes and water industry investigations.
You will act as the bridge between client commitments and internal delivery, ensuring the right resources, systems and controls are in place to achieve successful outcomes. A key aspect of the role is applying strong commercial awareness to manage change, risk and opportunity, while maintaining a clear link between project, programme and overall business performance.

The Role

Key Accountabilities
Project & Programme Delivery
- Ensure projects are delivered in line with FiveRivers Safety, Quality, Time and Commercial (SQTC) standards and company processes.
- Support project contract negotiations at pre-contract stage.
- Develop and manage comprehensive project plans, aligned with scope, deliverables and programme timelines.
- Assemble and coordinate project teams, providing clear direction and supporting innovative delivery.
- Manage project contracts and deliverables, ensuring outputs are achieved on time and within budget.
- Lead the commercial optimisation of projects, including supply chain management and client negotiations.
- Identify and manage change, assessing impacts across SQTC and supporting cost estimation.
- Manage project budgets, forecasting and commercial reporting.
- Oversee contract close-out activities.
- Build and maintain strong client and supply chain relationships.
- Manage resource allocation, competency and capacity across projects.
Team Management
- Foster a collaborative team environment with effective communication.
- Mentor and support team members, promoting development and succession planning.
- Work with senior leadership to achieve revenue, gross profit and utilisation targets.
- Bids & Tenders
- Support the development of high-quality proposals, coordinating inputs from estimators and technical specialists to secure new work.
Business Development
- Support sales and key account management activities to generate new opportunities.
- Identify and pursue new business aligned with growth and utilisation targets.
- Build relationships with key decision-makers and clients.
- Promote FiveRivers' services through industry engagement, including conferences, webinars and publications.
Qualifications
- Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline; significant experience considered in lieu.
- Project Management qualification such as APM PMQ or PRINCE2 Practitioner (considered equivalent); Chartered Project Professional (ChPP) desirable.
- Working knowledge of CDM 2015 regulations; formal accreditation (APS or CITB) desirable.
- Essential experience with NEC3/NEC4 Engineering and Construction Contract (ECC); NEC4 ECC Project Manager Accreditation (PMA) desirable.
- Professional membership (desirable):
- CIEEM - relevant to ecology and environmental management
- CIWEM - relevant to water and environmental engineering
- IEMA - relevant to environmental and sustainability management
- Experience using Microsoft Project for planning and programme management.
- Full UK Driving Licence
