The Vacancy

The Project Manager (multi-disciplinary) will play a key role in London City Airport's future, working within the projects team, leading the planning and execution of a range of projects, within a live airport operational environment.

The Project Manager (multi-disciplinary) will be responsible for the technical, commercial and financial management of projects, and will ensure all interfaces between the projects are managed effectively to deliver to the overall business objectives.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities of the Job:
  • Lead and manage the projects through the design, procurement, construction, delivery, and handover stages to achieve desired business outcomes.
  • Drive our project teams and associated contractors to deliver the highest levels of health, safety and environmental performance achievable. Coordinate and delivery regular safety engagement across all projects.
  • Review contractor Construction, Design & Management (CDM) and Health, Safety & Environmental submittals (including construction phase plans, risk assessments, method statements and work permits) and monitor compliance against accepted plans.
  • Identify and mitigate risks that may adversely impact project delivery or present the potential for airport operational disruption.
  • Deliver the assigned projects to agreed cost, schedule, and quality requirements, leading the successful handover of assigned projects to the Airport Operations Departments including ensuring all requisite AOR and Handover planning and activities are in place.
  • Set standards, manage, motivate, coach and mentor staff within the project teams and wider stakeholder teams.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal and statutory obligations applicable, including all standards and code compliance, and required planning permissions.
  • Inspect work within relevant discipline to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, airport standards and statutory regulations.
  • Support the technical evaluation of potential contractors and consultants as required.
  • Support the Contractor to mobilise, including support to logistics planning and making necessary arrangements to support future delivery plans.
  • Manage and positively influence key stakeholders (both internal & external) associated with the project(s).
  • Coordinate with wider Airport departments to ensure all works are installed according to accepted design, with all planned works carried out by qualified and approved persons as per airport standards and operating procedures.
  • Manage the governance of the projects and implement the airport's processes and best practice, including regular project performance governance presentations to project boards and other reporting forums.
  • Lead the Lessons Identified process across all project activities and embed a culture of continuous improvement.

Key Competencies:
  • Demonstrable experience as a Project Manager or strong Assistant Project Manager on multidisciplinary projects with a value typically over £3m in a relevant industry, including team leadership and external supplier management.
  • Experience in multi-disciplinary projects in a live operational environment.
  • Experience in project mobilisation and delivery phases.
  • Experience in managing multiple, interfacing, concurrent projects is desirable.
  • Experience managing multiple stakeholders through project planning and delivery phases.
  • Strong leadership and influencing skills.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Strong practical problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage complex stakeholder requirements.
  • Sound commercial and financial awareness.
  • Knowledge of the JCT suite of contracts is desirable.
  • Understanding of contract administration and negotiations.
  • Familiarity with busy transport environments is desirable.

Qualifications:
  • Practitioner level in Project Management (e.g. APM or equivalent).
  • Ability to obtain a full airside security pass.

This role will require the individual to have CTC Clearance

Working Hours:

Full time

This role takes an office first hybrid approach, with a minimum of three days a week in the office, two days remote, managed around the needs of the business.

Individual projects may require working outside of normal operating hours
