We're looking for a Technical Project Manager who enjoys solving difficult technical challenges and wants their work to have real operational impact.

What You'll Do

As a Technical Project Manager, you will lead the development and evolution of SiXworks' internal secure IT platform, ensuring it is robust, scalable, and capable of becoming a marketable product offering for external customers. This role combines technical delivery, strategic investment management, and innovation leadership, driving SiXworks' position as a leading IT innovator within the Defence and Security sector.

Your work may include:

Project Leadership & Delivery

• Deliver technical IT projects to time, cost, and quality, ensuring all outcomes are secure by design.

• Manage the development lifecycle of the internal secure IT platform, from requirements to release.

• Plan projects comprehensively and realistically, establishing clear milestones, budgets and delivery expectations.

• Ensure projects are resourced appropriately and delivered responsively, flexibly, and efficiently.

• Apply the most appropriate project methodology and adapt governance as needed for agile, technical environments.

• Lead and maintain robust project governance, including forecasting, reporting, and risk management.

• Oversee project contracts, schedules, resources, equipment, and information.

Technical & Security Awareness

• Maintain a good understanding of relevant technologies, secure architectures, and solution options.

• Ensure internal platforms and developments meet the security requirements expected in MOD secure environments.

• Work closely with engineering and security teams to ensure compliance with best practices and accreditation pathways.

Internal Investment & Commercialisation

• Manage and prioritise internal investment initiatives that contribute to the secure IT platform and related innovations.

• Work with stakeholders to shape internal R&D concepts into commercially viable offerings.

• Ensure that platform development aligns with potential customer needs and market opportunities.

• Contribute to business cases and investment proposals for capabilities that may be sold to other organisations.

• Support early-stage proofs-of-concept and demonstrators, ensuring they are positioned for future commercial adoption.

Stakeholder Engagement & Team Leadership

• Build strong relationships with internal customers, understanding operational and business needs.

• Direct and motivate project teams, ensuring they remain engaged, informed, and aligned.

• Promote knowledge sharing and collaboration across project teams and technical groups.

• Foster a happy, fulfilling working environment and ensure fair and equal treatment of all employees and associates.

• Assist with recruitment, selection, and capability development.

Strategic Contribution

• Contribute to SiXworks' wider strategy in business growth, innovation, and secure technology development.

• Maintain and develop professional and technical knowledge of relevant technologies, methodologies, and security domains.

• Build trust and long-term relationships with directors, colleagues, suppliers, partners, and clients.

• Maintain (at least) SC level clearance.

What We're Looking For

• Significant industry experience delivering technical projects within MOD secure environments.

• Experience developing and maturing internally funded IT capabilities into commercially viable offerings.

• Strong technical awareness of secure IT platforms, system architectures, and security principles.

• Excellent analytical skills, able to evaluate data, options, and performance metrics.

• Ability to operate at pace and manage multiple high priority initiatives.

• Demonstrable experience selecting and applying project methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, Hybrid).

• Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.

• Outstanding organisational, leadership, and motivational abilities.

• Excellent attention to detail and time management skills.

• Strong decision-making capability, informed by both technical and commercial considerations.

Just as important are curiosity, strong problem solving ability, and the motivation to continuously improve how technology is designed and delivered.
