General Management About the role
Are you a strategic procurement leader ready to shape the future of rail?
We're looking for a high-impact Head of Procurement to lead procurement activity across our Rail business, influence senior stakeholders, and drive commercial value through an ambitious, forward-thinking supply chain strategy.
This is a fantastic opportunity to take on a visible leadership role where your expertise will help deliver major projects, strengthen supplier partnerships, and support the successful delivery of a growing pipeline of work across the UK.
While we're flexible on where you're based, this role would ideally suit someone located in the South of England, close to where most of our Rail projects are delivered. You can expect regular travel to offices, depots and project sites.
If you're ready to lead procurement at scale, influence strategic decisions and help shape the future of rail, we'd love to hear from you!
What you'll be doing
As Head of Procurement - Rail, you'll be the senior procurement lead for the business and a trusted partner to both the Procurement Leadership Team and Rail Senior Leadership Team.
You'll lead a talented team, oversee complex procurement activity from requisition through to order, and play a key role in ensuring procurement aligns with business strategy, governance requirements, and long-term growth plans.
From supporting key preconstruction activity to engaging with major customers and developing high-performing supply chains, this role offers real breadth, visibility and influence.
Key responsibilities include:
You'll be an experienced procurement leader with a strong track record of delivering results in complex environments, ideally with experience in infrastructure, engineering, construction or rail.
You'll bring credibility at senior level, excellent stakeholder and people management skills, and the ability to balance commercial focus with governance and compliance.
We're looking for someone who is pragmatic, driven and collaborative, with strong negotiation skills, experience in subcontract procurement and supply chain management, and confidence using procurement systems and data to support decision-making.
Day in, day out, our teams deliver some of the UK's most ambitious, exciting and meaningful projects; developing, building and maintaining the vital infrastructure that supports national economies and strengthens communities.
Why join us?
As if contributing to and supporting work that makes life better for millions wasn't rewarding enough, we offer a full range of benefits too. You'll have the freedom to shape the package that's right for you and your life. Here are some of our key benefits:
Balfour Beatty Group Enabling Functions are Legal, Finance, IT and Procurement, Communications, Health Safety and Environment, HR and Sustainability. Together, they support delivery of our Build to Last strategy whilst improving efficiencies and standardising our approach, systems and processes.
