Senior Project Manager - Civil Engineering & Infrastructure (Water Sector)
I am currently recruiting on behalf of a leading civil engineering and infrastructure contractor for an experienced Senior Project Manager to join their delivery team, working across major water and wastewater infrastructure schemes.
This is a key leadership role responsible for the successful delivery of complex, high-value projects from early design development through construction, commissioning, and handover. Projects typically range from £25m up to £60m+, delivered within a collaborative framework environment alongside a major utilities client and design partners.
The successful candidate will take ownership of overall project performance, ensuring safe, efficient, and commercially successful delivery while leading multidisciplinary teams across all stages of the project lifecycle.

I am currently recruiting on behalf of a leading civil engineering and infrastructure contractor for an experienced Senior Project Manager to join their delivery team, working across major water and wastewater infrastructure schemes.
This is a key leadership role responsible for the successful delivery of complex, high-value projects from early design development through construction, commissioning, and handover. Projects typically range from £25m up to £60m+, delivered within a collaborative framework environment alongside a major utilities client and design partners.
The successful candidate will take ownership of overall project performance, ensuring safe, efficient, and commercially successful delivery while leading multidisciplinary teams across all stages of the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end delivery of major infrastructure projects from concept through to completion
- Manage integrated teams covering design, commercial, construction, and commissioning activities
- Develop and maintain robust project programmes, ensuring progress is monitored and maintained
- Take responsibility for commercial performance including cost control, forecasting, and change management
- Administer NEC contracts effectively, including compensation events, early warnings, and contractual compliance
- Work closely with clients, consultants, and supply chain partners within a collaborative delivery environment
- Lead technical discussions, ensuring buildability, value engineering, and efficient design solutions
- Maintain strong HSEQ leadership across all project activities, promoting a positive safety culture
- Carry out regular progress reviews, site visits, audits, and performance reporting
- Support pre-construction activities including bid preparation, tenders, and client presentations
- Identify opportunities for innovation, improved delivery methods, and continuous improvement
- Proven experience delivering major civil engineering or infrastructure projects in the £25m-£100m range
- Strong background leading multidisciplinary teams across design and construction phases
- Experience working within collaborative frameworks or alliance-style delivery models
- Excellent understanding of NEC contracts and commercial management principles
- Strong planning and programming experience (Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project preferred)
- Confident managing multiple stakeholders and senior project teams simultaneously
- Water or utilities sector experience would be highly advantageous
- Strong commitment to health, safety, environmental and quality standards
- In-depth understanding of CDM Regulations and construction compliance requirements
- Experience leading audits, inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Ability to promote sustainability and environmental best practice across delivery teams
- Degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field
- SMSTS and CSCS (Black Card or equivalent)
- Membership of a professional body (ICE, CIOB, APM or similar) desirable
- NEC accreditation or formal project management qualification advantageous
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
