Main purpose of the role

The role is primarily focused on portfolio data, insights, forecasting and scenario modelling providing visibility of delivery health, financials, risks, capacity and benefits. In addition, the role will support the mobilisation and delivery of short-term business change initiatives typically lasting less than three months, where analytical insight and structured delivery support is required.

As a founding member of the new PMO, this role will play a key role in defining data standards and building our portfolio reporting capability from the ground up.

Key Responsibilities

Portfolio Data and Insights
  • Develop and maintain portfolio dashboards and balanced scorecards covering financials (budget, forecast, actuals), delivery health, risks, milestones, resources and benefits.
  • Analyse portfolio trends, delivery performance issues, and risks.
  • Provide clear, evidence-based insights to support prioritisation and investment decisions.
  • Ensure accurate benefit tracking in collaboration with business owners.

Data Standards and Portfolio Model
  • Define and maintain data standards including RAG criteria, stage-gates, benefit types, cost codes, and WBS structures.
  • Maintain a consistent portfolio data model across tools, reports, and governance forums.
  • Ensure data quality and alignment with agreed PMO frameworks.

Scenario Modelling and Forecasting
  • Develop models for capacity vs. pipeline, resource constraints, funding options, and delivery scenarios.
  • Provide forward-looking analysis and insight to support prioritisation and planning decisions.
  • Identify portfolio gaps, overlaps, or conflicts across scope, benefits, or timelines.

Portfolio Reporting
  • Produce monthly portfolio insights for executive and leadership reporting.
  • Prepare aggregated reporting for SteerCo across delivery health, risks, dependencies, and benefits.
  • Support planning cycles with timely forecasting and evidence-based recommendations.

Tooling and Data Quality
  • Ensure timely and accurate data within the PPM tool and Power BI dashboards.
  • Conduct data quality checks and work with delivery teams to resolve issues or gaps.
  • Support effective use and integration of portfolio, planning and reporting tools.

Short-Term Business Change Delivery (Hybrid Element)
  • Mobilise and support delivery of small-scale business change initiatives, typically lasting less than three months.
  • Apply appropriate delivery discipline to clarify scope, objectives, milestones, and success measures.
  • Coordinate stakeholders across business functions to drive progress and outcomes.
  • Track delivery status, risks, dependencies, providing transparent updates to sponsors.

Personal attributes: Qualifications, experience, skills, knowledge and competencies required to fulfil the role

Experience and Skills
  • Experience in PMO, portfolio, programme, or delivery environments with responsibility for analytics or insight.
  • Strong analytical skills including forecasting, scenario analysis, benefit tracking, and risk assessment.
  • Proven experience creating dashboards and interpreting complex data sets.
  • Skilled in Power BI, PPM tools (including JIRA), and related reporting platforms.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and consistency.
  • Experience of supporting or leading short-term business change initiatives.
  • Exposure to operational or functional change environments.

Qualifications
  • Degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • A recognised PMO-related qualification is required (such as P3O or MoP Foundation).
  • A recognised project management qualification is desirable (for example PRINCE2 or PMP)
