General Information

Reporting to Division General Counsel for Marine & Ports , you will be a member of the global Marine & Ports Legal & Integrity team .

As Senior Legal Counsel for Marine & Ports and Country Corporate Counsel for Panama, you will serve as the lead legal advisor in the country and a key member of the Marine & Ports Legal & Integrity team and the ABB Panama Country Management Team. In this role, you will provide strategic, solution‑oriented legal guidance on a wide range of domestic and international matters, ensuring that business objectives are achieved responsibly, ethically, and in full compliance with relevant laws and ABB policies.

Your Role and Responsibilities

1. Strategic Legal & Business Partnership
  • Serve as the primary legal advisor for ABB's business and functional teams in Panama, covering all aspects of commercial, corporate, and regulatory law.
  • Provide clear, pragmatic legal advice that support strategic decision‑making and risk‑balanced business growth.


2. Corporate Governance & Country Leadership
  • Act as a member of ABB Panama's Country Management Team, contributing to the leadership, oversight, and governance of all ABB legal entities in Panama.
  • Ensure robust corporate fiduciary compliance and adherence to ABB governance standards.


3. Commercial & Contractual Support
  • Lead the drafting, review, negotiation, and interpretation of a broad range of commercial agreements, including EPC contracts, procurement agreements, consortium agreements, and framework agreements in various countries globally.
  • Conduct risk assessments and recommend mitigation strategies that align with ABB policies, commercial practices, and local/ international regulations.


4. Integrity, Compliance & Ethical Leadership
  • Serve as Integrity Officer for ABB in Panama, partnering closely with Business Area Integrity team and Integrity Investigations & Monitoring team.
  • Identify and assess integrity risks related to business opportunities and transactions, implementing appropriate mitigation measures.
  • Deliver legal and integrity training programs, conduct investigations, and support ongoing compliance initiatives.


5. Dispute Management
  • Manage complex disputes, engaging and managing external counsel and ABB Centers of Expertise to achieve optimal outcomes in a cost‑effective manner.


6. Risk Management
  • Manage and participate in ABB's risk review process according to Company, Business Area and Division policies with the business team for legal and

contractual issues and provide guidance as to risk management.

Qualifications for the role

  • Law degree in Panama or other jurisdiction.
  • A practicing attorney with at least 10 years of working experience in a multi-national company, preferably in EPC, construction, energy or power industries.
  • Experience in and knowledge of EPC contracts and/or FIDIC contracts is preferred.
  • Experience working under both common law and civil law jurisdictions.
  • Multiple jurisdiction experience in Europe and Africa is a plus.
  • Proactive & positive attitude with collaborative team spirit, team player with strong communication skills, good interpersonal skills and able to work effectively with business stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills in spoken and written English.
  • Attention to details with excellent time management skills.
  • Self-motivated, willingness to tackle new and ever-changing business needs, and able to work autonomously and reliably under high pressure.
