In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:

International Trade Compliance (ITC) Program Support
  • Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Emerson International Trade Compliance (ITC) program in India.
  • Ensure alignment with global trade compliance policies, directives, and internal standards.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining trade compliance manuals, SOPs, and internal guidelines and monitor regulatory changes and assess impact on business operations.

Import Compliance & Customs Operations
  • Ensure compliance with Indian import regulations, customs laws, and EXIM policy.
  • Understanding of customs clearance activities in coordination with Customs Handling Agents (CHA)/Customs brokers.
  • Maintain and standardize customs brokerage SOPs across CSS business units.
  • Provide guidance on customs valuations, including Special Valuation Branch (SVB) matters, related party transactions and Customs Assist Rules.
  • Support bonded operations (EOU, EHTP, STPI etc.) and ensure regulatory adherence.
  • Assist in audits, investigations, and responses to customs authorities.

Export Compliance & Controls
  • Ensure compliance with Indian export regulations and global export control requirements.
  • Support export classification under applicable regimes: U.S. Export Administration Regulations (EAR) / Commerce Control List (CCL), EU Dual-Use regulations, Indian SCOMET guidelines.
  • Assist in determining licensing requirements and export eligibility.
  • Provide guidance on deemed exports, re-exports, and routed exports.
  • Support compliance with technology and software transfer and license, wireless and encryption rules.

Sanctions, Embargo & Restricted Party Screening
  • Ensure compliance with international sanctions and embargo regulations (primarily U.S., EU, and UK).
  • Manage and oversee restricted/denied party screening processes.
  • Investigate and resolve screening hits and escalate as required.
  • Provide advisory support on high-risk countries, customers, and transactions.

Export Incentive Schemes & Trade Programs
  • Support implementation and compliance for export incentive schemes such as: RoDTEP, Advance Authorization (Advance License), Duty Drawback, Ensure accurate documentation, claims, and audit readiness.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders for maximization of eligible benefits.

Classification (Import & Export)
  • Perform and support HS classification for imported and exported goods.
  • Maintain classification database and ensure consistency across systems.
  • Assist in export control classification (ECCN/SCOMET categorization).
  • Resolve classification disputes and support audits.

Compliance Audits & Monitoring
  • Conduct internal compliance reviews and site-level audits.
  • Support external audits (customs, regulatory, internal audit teams).
  • Identify compliance gaps and recommend corrective actions.
  • Track and report compliance metrics through Emerson Archer compliance program.

Training & Awareness
  • Support development and delivery of trade compliance training programs
  • Conduct awareness sessions for cross-functional teams (supply chain, procurement, sales, finance).
  • Promote a culture of Emerson compliance program across the organization.

Advisory & Business Support
  • Act as a subject matter resource for trade compliance queries from business units.
  • Provide guidance on complex or escalated compliance issues.
  • Partner with supply chain, logistics, legal, and finance teams to ensure compliant operations.
  • Support new business initiatives, projects, and product launches from a trade compliance perspective.

Supply Chain Security Programs
  • Support and maintain supply chain security initiatives such as: Authorized Economic Operator (AEO), Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT), Assist in certification, renewal, and audit processes.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with security standards.

Documentation & Record Keeping
  • Ensure proper maintenance of Import/Export documentation in line with regulatory requirements.
  • Support Emerson record retention policies and audit readiness.
  • Maintain trade compliance records, licenses, and approvals.

Internal
  • The role works closely with the Emerson Global Legal and Regulatory Compliance function to align India compliance programs with global policies and standards, while partnering with CSS India business leaders and operations teams to provide regulatory guidance that enables lawful business execution.
  • It collaborates with Supply Chain, Procurement, and Logistics to ensure compliant sourcing, Import/Export execution, and supplier onboarding, and Finance and Tax to support duty optimization, export incentives, valuation, and audit readiness.
  • In addition, it engages in Engineering, Quality, and Product Management on export control, BIS, , and coordinates with global and regional regulatory compliance and functional teams on cross-border, export control, and broader global compliance initiatives.

External
  • The role maintains effective external relationships with customs brokers and freight forwarders to ensure compliant execution of import and export transactions, including accurate documentation and customs processes, and interfaces with relevant government authorities and regulators, as appropriate, on licensing matters, audits, inquiries, and other regulatory requirements

For This Role, You Will Need:
  • 3-5 years of relevant work experience in Compliance, Legal, International Trade, or a related regulatory function.
  • Strong knowledge of Indian regulatory frameworks impacting trade, customs, and compliance.
  • Proven experience leading cross-functional compliance initiatives within a matrix organization.
  • Excellent oral and written English and Hindi communication skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with senior management and diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting multinational or U.S./EU-headquartered organizations.
  • Familiarity with compliance systems, dashboards, and audit frameworks.
  • Working knowledge of JDE, Oracle, E2Open and TradeSphere Exporter
  • Ability to travel 10%+ for success in the role (Requires to travel different locations like Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad etc)


Preferred Qualifications That Set You Apart:
  • Bachelor's degree in law, Business, Engineering, Finance, or a related discipline; or an associate degree in legal studies, Business, International Trade, or equivalent, with relevant professional experience.
