- Support the Head of Legal and the Legal Department of the Company, to ensure the provision of high quality/high value legal and commercial advice and support to all departments across the Company.
- Provide the full range of commercial and operational legal services to clients across the Company's affiliates to:
- add value to the business, and
- meet the needs of, and protect, the Company's legal and commercial interests.
Activities
- Provide commercially-driven legal advice to business units on local law matters, specifically focusing on commercial, land, labor, and security-related issues.
- Advise on local contractual matters for procurement, including the drafting and review of agreements, supporting negotiations, and addressing related compliance requirements.
- Maintain and update Corporate Governance frameworks, including the preparation of board minutes, management of powers of attorney, and ensuring the Company's corporate books and filings are in full compliance.
- Counsel internal clients on contractual obligations and regulatory risks, ensuring business operations remain compliant with both local legislation and internal standards.
- Conduct specialized legal research and prepare strategy briefs for upcoming negotiations and commercial projects.
- Provide legal support for social and community investment activities, including sponsorship programmes, donations, and foundation - related initiatives, ensuring alignment with applicable legal, governance, and compliance requirements.
- Support the management of litigation, arbitration, and dispute matters involving the Company, including coordination with external counsel, legal research, preparation of case documentation, and internal reporting on dispute status.
- Deliver legal support for labor, employment, and immigration workflows, working in close coordination with the HR department.
- Assist, as required, in engagements with regulatory authorities and relevant stakeholders within the incumbent areas of practice.
- Monitor and interpret legislative changes impacting operations, providing clear summaries and actionable recommendations to the business.
- Uphold and promote the Company's Code of Conduct and ethical standards, acting as a point of reference for the internal compliance culture.
- Integrate Legal and HSE (Health, Safety, & Environment) standards, ensuring all legal advice and operations reinforce the Company's safety culture.
- Execute the review and alignment of internal policies, statutory regulations, and corporate formalities, ensuring they meet both Mozambican law and internal governance standards.
- Ensure clear, risk-aligned legal delivery by maintaining a deep understanding of the Mozambican legal framework as it applies to the Company's specific operational profile.
Candidate Profile
- Fully qualified lawyer with a minimum of 6 years of experience in legal practice as a commercial/business lawyer, gained in private or industry practice
- Bachelors Degree in Law
- Demonstrate solid experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial agreements, particularly those related to LNG projects, as well as the ability to provide legal advisory support to business, technical, and finance teams.
- Experience in Mozambique or emerging markets regulatory environment
- Fluent in Portuguese and English.
