Job Description Summary
The Waste Compliance Specialist supports site Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) operations by managing hazardous waste activities for the 90-day storage area and completing weekly inspections of the site's Satellite Accumulation Areas (SAAs). This role ensures waste is stored, labeled, documented, and shipped in compliance with RCRA and DOT requirements and GE procedures, while maintaining accurate inspection records, inventories, and tracking of corrective actions.

Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Manage 90-day area compliance by ensuring waste is stored, segregated, labeled, and packaged per RCRA/DOT and GE requirements
- Process daily requests for waste pickups and empty waste containers; stage empty containers with correct GE internal labels for delivery to SAAs
- Coordinate timely transfers by ensuring full hazardous waste containers move to the 90-day storage area within 3 days, and SAAs do not exceed 55 gallons of a single hazardous waste stream
- Maintain electronic inventory of waste in 90-day storage areas, updating as waste is received
- Verify waste profiling by matching incoming waste to approved profiles and drafting new/renewal waste profiles (using SDS and/or analytical data) for GE review and approval
- Plan and support shipments by scheduling monthly waste shipments (including lab packs) and ensuring wastes ship within accumulation limits
- Coordinate preparation of shipping documentation including manifests and DOT labels at least 3 days prior to shipment dates
- Perform weekly inspections of the 90-day storage area; upload documentation and findings to GE tracking/action systems
- Conduct weekly SAA inspections (Monday through Sunday coverage) for approximately 152 SAAs, including coordinating escorted access for restricted areas
- Use Gensuite tools to document inspections, initiate discrepancies, assign corrective actions to responsible supervisors, and verify closure
- Inspect chemical storage totes/bins during weekly SAA rounds and identify incompatible storage conditions for correction
- Maintain compliance support logs/spreadsheets (e.g., signage needs, SAA moves/additions, waste codes by profile, expiring drums, supervisor lists) and coordinate with EHS representatives as needed
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university (or a high school diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years of experience in manufacturing, compliance, and/or EHS related experience)
- At least an additional 3 year's experience in manufacturing, compliance, and/or EHS experience
Desired Characteristics:
- Regulatory knowledge: Strong knowledge of RCRA hazardous waste requirements and DOT shipping/labeling basics
- Operational capability: Experience handling, labeling, staging, or managing waste containers in an industrial or regulated environment
- Inspection & documentation: Demonstrated ability to perform systematic inspections, document findings, and follow up to verify corrective action completion
- Systems proficiency: Strong computer skills (Excel/spreadsheets and web-based systems); ability to learn and use Gensuite or similar EHS systems
- Communication & coordination: Ability to work across operations and EHS, coordinate escorted access, and assign/track action ownership. Safety mindset: Proven commitment to safe work practices and following site EHS procedures and PPE requirements
