We are looking for a Senior Well Site Geologist with the following details :
Location : Mainly on rig offshore in Namibia, but not limited, with potential stays in Windhoek, Luderitz or Walvis Bay
Duration : 12 months
Work Scheme : Rotational 28 days ON and 28 days OFF
Planned Start Date : Sept 2026
Experience Requirements
- Experience Required: Minimum 10 years in the position of senior well site geologist
- Relevant Experience Required: Experience in well types such as exploration and appraisal, deep offshore, vertical and deviated wells, sidetracks, and high-temperature-pressure wells; Operational experience in activities such as logging while drilling, coring, extensive wireline acquisition, DST, sidetrack, and plug & abandon.
- Industry-Specific Experience: Expertise in deep offshore drilling operations and subsurface geology practices
Qualifications
- Minimum Qualification Required: GEOSCIENCE diploma: BTS (BAC+2) geology orientation or higher (with relevant experience in Operations Geology)
- Preferred Qualification: Subsurface Geology for Operations Geologist and Well Site Geologist certificate from I.F.P (Institut Français du Pétrole)
- Certifications:
- BOSIET, including EBS (Emergency Breathing System)
- Offshore medical certificate
- Language Proficiency: English: Advanced-Proficient, mandatory
Responsibilities and Skills
Key Responsibilities:
- Real-time geological surveillance and interpretation integrated with drilling activities
- Monitor and interpret cuttings, mud gas, LWD/MWD, and wireline data in real-time
- Identify formation tops, lithology changes, and hydrocarbon shows
- Correlate actual geology with pre-drill models and seismic prognosis
- Detect abnormal pressures, faults, and drilling hazards (e.g., overpressure, instability, lost circulation, gas kicks)
- Guide trajectory adjustments to stay within target reservoir zones
- Recommend casing setting depths and call phase TD and well TD when geologically established
- Recommend coring points and optimize rate of penetration versus geological real-time acquisition sampling rate compliance
- Supervise and anticipate services under geoscience perimeter (equipment, personnel, activity, NPT)
- Manage and ensure quality in mud logging, wireline, LWD, and coring operations
- Execute acquisition programs and ensure data quality and completeness
- Oversee sample handling and shipping (gas, cuttings, mud, cores, rotary sidewall cores, fluids samples, etc.)
- HSE compliance and risk management
- Participate in risk assessments, safety meetings, and incident reporting
- Ensure offshore regulations compliance for self and support companies
- Communication, reporting, and leadership
- Act as the primary geological authority on the rig
- Provide timely and accurate reports (daily geological reports, end-of-well reports, Retour experience, presentations, real-time and memory data, etc.)
- Lead and mentor junior wellsite geologists and trainees
- Coordinate between onshore and offshore teams and service companies
- Participate in pre-drill planning and post-well reviews
- Real-time geological surveillance and interpretation integrated with drilling activities
Technical & Domain Skills:
- Specific industry software:
- GRAVITAS, Gemstone, SQMT
- Strong geology fundamentals:
- Sedimentology, stratigraphy, structural geology
- Formation evaluation & petrophysics understanding
- Real-time data quality control, interpretation, and integration (cuttings, gas, logs, pressures, gains-losses, depth control, lag time, equipment efficiency)
- Deep knowledge of:
- Drilling operations
- Mud logging
- Logging technologies (LWD/WL)
- Coring
- Not in-depth but involved knowledge of: Fluid systems (mud, cement, brine)
- Operational and offshore-specific skills:
- Well delivery process
- Offshore logistics & constraints
- High adaptability to remote, harsh offshore conditions
- Specific industry software:
