Job Title: Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor (Oil & Gas Field)

Job Overview:

The Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor in the oil and gas field is responsible for overseeing and coordinating mechanical maintenance activities to ensure the reliable and efficient operation of all mechanical systems and equipment used in field operations. This role involves supervising a team of technicians, ensuring that all machinery, pumps, compressors, and other mechanical equipment are maintained, repaired, and optimized in compliance with safety standards, environmental regulations, and operational goals. The supervisor ensures minimal downtime, improves system reliability, and supports continuous operations in the oil and gas environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Supervision: Lead, supervise, and train a team of mechanical maintenance technicians in the oil and gas field, ensuring all maintenance tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and to high standards.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Develop, implement, and manage preventive maintenance schedules for all field equipment, machinery, and mechanical systems to reduce breakdowns and extend equipment life.
  • Troubleshooting and Repairs: Diagnose mechanical issues and ensure the quick, effective resolution of equipment malfunctions to reduce downtime and maintain continuous field operations.
  • Equipment Performance: Monitor the performance of mechanical systems, including pumps, valves, compressors, engines, and other critical equipment, ensuring their optimal functionality.
  • Safety and Compliance: Enforce and adhere to strict safety protocols and regulatory requirements specific to the oil and gas industry, ensuring a safe working environment for the team and compliance with environmental and safety standards (e.g., OSHA, API, EPA).
  • Work Scheduling and Coordination: Plan, assign, and prioritize daily maintenance tasks, ensuring all work is completed on schedule and in alignment with operational needs.
  • Inventory and Spare Parts Management: Oversee inventory control for mechanical parts, tools, and equipment, ensuring the timely procurement of replacement parts and supplies.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate maintenance logs, reports, and records of repairs, equipment status, and service history, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaboration: Coordinate with other departments, such as operations and production teams, to ensure that maintenance schedules and downtime are aligned with production needs and minimize impact on operations.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify areas for improvement in maintenance processes, propose solutions to increase efficiency, and implement best practices to enhance the reliability and performance of mechanical systems.
  • Emergency Response: Be prepared to respond to mechanical emergencies in the field, providing leadership and support to resolve issues quickly and effectively.
  • Training and Development: Ensure ongoing training and development of maintenance staff to improve technical knowledge and skills, keeping the team up-to-date with new technologies and best practices.
  • Budget Management: Assist in developing and managing the maintenance budget, ensuring cost-effective use of resources while maintaining high operational standards.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree or vocational training in mechanical engineering, industrial maintenance, or a related field is preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical maintenance within the oil and gas industry or other heavy industrial environments, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, including pumps, valves, compressors, engines, and turbines, used in the oil and gas field.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing complex mechanical systems.
  • Familiarity with oil and gas industry safety standards and regulations (e.g., OSHA, API, EPA).
  • Knowledge of maintenance management systems (e.g., CMMS) and computerized maintenance planning.
  • Strong leadership skills and experience managing a team in a field environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, in harsh environmental conditions, and in remote or offshore locations.
  • Willingness to work in rotating shifts, remote locations, and extended hours as required by project needs.

Desired Skills:

  • Certifications such as API, NACE, or equivalent in mechanical maintenance or oil and gas operations are a plus.
  • Experience with rotating equipment (e.g., pumps, turbines, compressors) and pipeline systems.
  • Welding, machining, or fabrication experience is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of condition monitoring and predictive maintenance techniques.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to report to management and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Physical Requirements:.

  • Willingness to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in varying environmental conditions (e.g., extreme temperatures, wet or hazardous conditions).
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and comply with safety regulations in a field environment.
