Drilling Fluid Engineer Responsibilities.
 
  1. Performing drilling fluid planning for any wells drilled and worked over under this Contract,
  2. Providing load-out and mobilization plan of Contractor Equipment.
  3. Check and work with given Drilling fluid formulations, base fluid concentration, densities, rheology, fluid loss, etc;
  1. Hydraulics modeling.
  2. Surge and swab analysis.
  3. Hole cleaning profile.
  4. Brine and mud density profiles.
  5. Flow displacement program.
  6. Kill well calculation.
  7. Estimated Product volumes and quantities required for each primary and contingent hole sections.
  8. Contingency Plan for lost circulation including optimal bridging agent selection, bid balling, H2S, stuck pipe, water flow and over-pressured zones.
  9. Check and record Circulating temperature simulation for each hole section.
  1. Performing drilling fluid simulation and assessment in the highly deviated and/or extended reach wells to be drilled.
  2. Handling the bulk and mud chemicals.
  3. Keeping Company Representative at offshore work site (on the Rig) informed on progress of each job and report any difficulties promptly.
  4. Reporting all failures to Company Representative at offshore work site (on the Rig) together with Contractor Representative in Contractor Operation Office in Abu Dhabi.
  5. Ensuring that the relevant service ticket is completed and authorized by Company Representative at offshore work site (on the Rig) prior to departure at offshore work site;
  6. Providing Company Representative at offshore work site (on the Rig) with daily report, daily inventory report, and daily cost estimate.
  7. Providing any technical advice and support on all aspects related to the Work; and
  8. Providing any suggestions and recommendation related to HSE to minimize the risk of incidents.   
  9. Ensuring that all drilling and completion fluid systems are correctly formulated to fully meet requirements of specifications under this Contract and/or any instruction given by Company.
  10. Ensuring that all drilling and completion fluid properties are maintained as specified in the drilling fluid program agreed by both parties.
  11. Responding immediately to any change in drilling or operational circumstances and the consequent requirement to review fluid properties and strategies.
  1. Recommending changes to better achieve the well objectives and optimize drilling fluid and solid control equipment performance.
 
  1. Implementing recommended changes approved by Company Personnel on the Rig to better achieve the well objectives and optimize drilling fluid and solid control equipment performance.
 
  1. Monitoring shale shakers to ensure that the finest possible screen mesh sizes are utilized at all times without incurring whole mud losses.
 
  1. Continuously monitoring cuttings (i.e. shape, size and volume) to assess the adequacy of formation inhibition, hole stability and hole cleaning efficiency.
 
  1. closely monitoring shale shakers at first bottom-up prior to tripping, and remain at the shale shakers until the hole is circulated clean;
 
  1. Informing Company Representative on the Rig when the hole has cleaned up sufficiently to safely trip out of the hole.
 
  1. Closely monitoring drilling and completion fluid volumes at all times and most especially during critical operations such as drilling in potential lost circulation zones, over-pressured zone, and during cementing operations.
 
  1. Maintaining drilling and completion fluid materials inventories in usable condition at safe operating levels with adequate allowance for contingencies.
 
  1. Maintaining and update inventory of Contractor Equipment including any necessary consumables and spare parts on a daily basis.
 
  1. Preparing a detailed mud pit management plan for each hole section including, but not limited to all drilling fluids mixing and fluids transferring.
 
  1. Preparing daily instructions to the Rig contractor crew to direct them on the requirement for drilling fluid mixing and treatment.
 
  1. Preparing daily drilling fluid and solid control discharge reports on a daily basis.
 
  1. Ensure that all drilling and completion fluid testing equipment is regularly calibrated and maintained as per API Spec.13A;
 
  1. Run specified QC tests on all bulk Barite and Bentonite received at offshore work site (on the Rig);
 
  • Run a minimum of one full active mud tests, one on an “in” sample and one on an “out” mud sample per tour (12 hours)
 
  1. Run pilot tests as required to diagnose drilling and completion fluid problems and/or optimize chemical treatment levels
 
  1. Ensure that completion fluid (brine) meet the NTU specification defined by Company

Solid control equipment management
 
  1. Ensure that sufficient stocks of suitable size shale shaker screens are available and that orders for new screens are placed in advance of their anticipated required date
 
  1. Ensure that the integrity of all shale shaker screens are checked on a regular basis during all drilling and circulating conditions. Torn shale shake screens should be properly replaced
 
  1. Ensure that all used shale shaker screens are cleaned with base fluid, NOT seawater. Clearly identify and safely store shale shaker screens when not in use
 
  1. Ensure that the centrifuges are started up and shut down according to the manufacturer’s recommended procedures
 
  1. Ensure that the rig maintenance crews maintain and services the shale shakers and centrifuges as required
 
  1. Inform Company Personnel on the Rig whenever the solids control equipment requires servicing or repairing and ensure that necessary steps are taken to mobilize the service personnel.
