Senior HV Commissioning Engineer
Department: Engineering
Reporting to: Project Manager

Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior High Voltage (HV) Commissioning Engineer for our client, to lead the commissioning and handover of HV electrical systems on major onshore projects. This role is critical to ensuring all electrical equipment is delivered safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with project specifications, company procedures, and international standards.
You will play a key role within a multi-disciplinary commissioning team, coordinating with internal departments, vendors, and contractors to achieve successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as the focal point for HV electrical commissioning activities within the project team
• Develop and execute detailed commissioning strategies, procedures, and schedules
• Support the project completions management system, ensuring all certification and documentation is accurate and complete
• Coordinate system handover with operations teams to ensure a smooth transition to live operations
• Lead troubleshooting and resolution of complex electrical issues during commissioning
• Oversee calibration, functional testing, and performance verification of HV systems
• Prepare progress reports, test documentation, and punch lists
• Ensure full compliance with Health, Safety, Environment, and Operational Integrity (HSE) standards
• Provide commissioning input during the detailed design phase to ensure efficient project execution
• Deputise for the Lead Commissioning Engineer when required

Skills & Experience Required

Qualifications:

• HNC / HND / Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent

Experience

• Extensive experience in electrical design, installation, and commissioning
• Strong background in onshore oil & gas projects
• Hands-on experience with mechanical completion, pre-commissioning, and commissioning activities
• Working knowledge of international standards, codes, and certification requirements

Technical Expertise:

• HV networks, switching, and isolation
• Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS), transformers, HV motors
• Protection relays and variable speed drives
• Generators and Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems
• Hazardous area (Ex) equipment
• Commissioning safety systems including Permit to Work and LOTO

Additional Competencies:

• Previous experience as an authorised HV isolation authority
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capability
• Proficient in commissioning systems and technical software tools
• Excellent communication and report-writing skills
• Ability to influence and collaborate across multi-disciplinary and multicultural teams
• Comfortable working in remote or site-based environments
• Proven leadership ability, with experience guiding commissioning teams to deliver safely and on schedule
