Senior Wellsite Geologist
Location: Uganda (28/28 rotation)
Reporting Line: Head of Geological Operations

Role Overview
We are seeking experienced Senior Wellsite Geologists to join a major onshore drilling project in a remote and environmentally sensitive region of East Africa. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a large-scale greenfield development with complex geological and operational challenges.

Key Responsibilities
• Ensure strict adherence to company HSE policies and procedures, actively contributing to safety initiatives and reporting hazards or incidents.
• Perform real-time well data quality control, validation, and interpretation at the wellsite.
• Identify and evaluate geological hazards including abnormal pressures, losses, gains, caving, differential sticking, shallow gas, and other drilling risks.
• Detect reservoir zones and carry out quick-look evaluations of fluid content.
• Maintain accurate and timely communication of wellsite data and operational updates.
• Supervise all geological data acquisition activities, including mudlogging, LWD/MWD, wireline logging, coring, sampling, and pressure measurements.
• Ensure complete and high-quality data recovery, reporting, and transmission to the operations geology team.
• Monitor contractor performance across geological services, ensuring equipment reliability, consumables availability, and crew competency.
• Conduct periodic technical audits of service providers to verify compliance with contractual and operational standards.
• Oversee sample handling, labelling, conditioning, and shipment in line with project requirements.
• Collaborate closely with drilling, mud, and other discipline supervisors to ensure cohesive operations.
• Participate in pre-job meetings and planning sessions for specialized operations.
• Mentor and support the development of junior and local wellsite geologists.
• Contribute to final well reports and technical documentation, including lessons learned and new technology evaluations.

Project Environment
This role is part of a large-scale onshore oil development in a remote area of Uganda. The project involves:
• Multi-pad drilling operations, including locations within environmentally sensitive zones.
• Production of heavy and waxy crude, supported by advanced processing and water management facilities.
• Reservoir pressure maintenance through water and polymer injection.
• Extensive infrastructure including interconnected flowlines with temperature control systems.
• A highly multicultural working environment with international contractors and strict regulatory requirements.

Accountabilities
• Ensure all geological operations on the rig comply with HSE standards.
• Deliver operations aligned with well objectives defined during planning phases.
• Support well safety through proactive hazard detection and monitoring.
• Provide accurate, detailed, and timely reporting of geological activities.
• Guarantee the quality, reliability, and relevance of all collected data.
• Contribute to the technical development of local personnel.

Qualifications & Experience

Education:
• Minimum BSc (Hons) in Geology or a related geoscience discipline
• Certified as an Operations Geologist (e.g. IFP or equivalent)

Experience:
• Prior experience in operations geology (including wellsite geology, petrophysics, and onshore drilling operations)

• High level of adaptability, rigor, and proactivity
• Commitment to continuous learning and knowledge sharing
• Fluent in English (mandatory)
