Main function of the job: -

Responsible for day to day running of all port tugs, ensuring safe and optimal towage and berthing services for ships in port and at sea. The duties include anchoring and ship movement within the port and also responsibility for port safe operations as required by port authority and marine safety code.

Duties & Responsibilities: -

  • Operate and maneuver tug boats to assist with berthing and unberthing of ships and ensure towing services are performed safe and efficiently.
  • Assist duty pilot for safe movement of ships from sea to port, berthing, unberthing and anchorage in accordance with appropriate procedures.
  • Responsible for facilitating the safe and efficient operations and handling of shipping in the port and at sea as required by port authority and all relevant sections of the port marine safety code.
  • Communicate with port authorities and other vessels to ensure safe navigation and operation.
  • Responsible for the safe navigation, maneuvering and mooring of the tug boat and as well as the safety of the tugboat and the crew.
  • Use navigation skills to read maps, use GPS and other navigation tools and systems to determine the safest and most efficient routes for ships.
  • Determining the depth of the water in the port at different points to ensure that incoming ships do not run aground.
  • Perform various marine duties such as checking for oil spills or other pollutants around ports and as well as monitor area surroundings port to detect potential hazards.
  • Maintain and inspect tug boats to ensure they are in good working condition.
  • Carry out frequent inspection of tow rope to check for any damage due to chaffing, oil stains, burnt marks,.. etc and arrange for immediate replacement.
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions and be prepared for long working hours shift, as well as for the occasional emergency situation.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of maritime law and safety regulations.
  • Report unsafe situations and actions to contribute to increased safety and awareness in the port such as adding new buoys or channel markers to indicate shallow areas.
  • Maintain records of daily activities, personnel reports, ship positions and movements, weather and sea conditions.
  • Prepare technical and port operations routine reports.

Qualifications & experience: -

  • Education: -Degree or HND in marine science.
  • Experience: - 15 years of experience in marine operations including oil and gas ports.
  • Excellent organizational and problems solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and team player skills.
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer skills MS office.

 

Summary of Terms & Conditions:

  • Work Cycle of 56/21 including Travel Days for American, Eastern and Western Europe, others 65/21 , including Travel Days
    • 9 Hours a day
