Job Description Summary
BROAD FUNCTION:
Set up and operate standard machine tools and specialized equipment to make, modify and rework parts and assemblies as directed. Will use all types of measuring and hand tools and perform related duties. Will work from written procedures, blueprints, repair manuals, sketches, and/or verbal instructions. Write planning as required. Will receive work assignments throughout the machine shop and will operate various machine tools. Will perform repetitive and/or single piece lot work. Must be able to assist and be directed by higher rated machinist and/or toolmaker in the manufacture of a variety of machine (engine) components and assemblies, and to develop/implement new processes. Machinists own the repair process from start to finish, so they must be willing to bench, inspect, steam/clean, grit blast, etc. to keep hardware moving. Maintain associated paperwork. May be called upon to disposition hardware, maintain/change routers, and instruct others as required and perform related duties. Instruct and train others as required.

MACHINIST RATE: C23
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Two years minimum experience within a structured training program (such as an apprentice program) with additional work experience of 3 years (i.e., VTL, VBM, Lathe, Bridgeport, Mills, Drills, Grinders, etc.) OR 5 years work experience as a skilled machinist (i.e., VTL, VBM, Lathe, Bridgeport, Mills, Drills, Grinders, etc.)
- High school degree, or GED
- Previous experience in the set-up and operation of standard machine tools
- Experience operating various hand and power tools and basic machine tools and equipment
- Experience using shop math, including fraction and decimals, with working knowledge in algebra, geometry, and trigonometry
- Demonstrated skill in the use of precision measuring instruments with experience inspecting machined hardware
- Experience in reading and interpreting technical documents, drawings, and standards
- Knowledge of cutting tool capabilities and applications for both CNC and manual machining processes
- Knowledge of fixture design and functionality
- Knowledge of safety standards and safeguards
- Ability to monitor multiple machines at the same time
- Pass machinist written and functional test
- Experience operating material handling and lifting devices, including ability to obtain forklift license as required
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Apprentice graduate OR 10 years or more machinist experience (3 points)
- Experience with C.N.C. or N.C. equipment (2 points)
- Experience in using CMM equipment (1 point)
- Experience in operating material handling and lifting devices, including ability to obtain a forklift license as required (1 point)
- Experience in preventative maintenance and assisting in machine repairs (1 point)
- Experience with basic use of computers, applications, and keyboarding (e.g. email, Microsoft Excel, etc.) (1 point)
