What You Can Expect
Our Meters and Controls Supervisor based at the University of Iowa Main Campus in Iowa City, IA. Will be responsible for overseeing the daily activities of the Electrical and Instrumentation (E&I) Technician staff related to the operations, maintenance, and repair activities associated with the Utility Network and metering systems.
Daily you will be providing assignments for our Team of E&I Technicians, and providing coordination for work performed by other disciplines such as network and controls engineers, cybersecurity analysts, and trades including electricians, steamfitters, and contractors. You will be using your knowledge and experience to build, supervise, and train our team who installs, operates, troubleshoots, and maintains the Utility Network and associated systems focusing on the primary goals of safety, reliability and stewardship. You will determine jobsite work sequences and safety procedures required. You will procure materials, coordinates outages with customers, direct work and direct unplanned outage restoration activities.

Salary Range: $39.38 - $58.38 USD hourly

- You will provide all supervisory support for direct reports such as ensuring that all regular scheduling, On-call emergency response scheduling, PTO or vacation, or other time off work operations, and that team members are properly documented for payroll and attendance records
- You will proactively address issues as they arise
- You'll participate in the filling of vacancies
- You will assist the operating staff in responding to (attend) any operational incidents or emergencies on a 24/7/365 basis
- You will recommend staffing plans to provide enhanced quality and efficiency of service delivery
- You will provide technical and coordination support to capital projects which impact the Utility Network systems
- Work with project teams, other internal departments, contractors, and end users to coordinate related work
- Review design documents and provide QA/QC during construction or maintenance activities to ensure compliance with design standards and departmental standards. Works proactively providing excellent customer service to internal and external customers
- You will support and help drive a robust maintenance management program focused on preventive and predictive maintenance utilizing the full capabilities of our CMMS system
- You will Implement corporate policies, procedures, and directives
- You will interpret and assist with maintenance of system logs, drawings, and documentation on utility systems
What You'll Bring
- A minimum of an Associate's (AAS) degree in Automation & Instrumentation (A&I) or Electronics Engineering Technology (EET), Other/similar technical programs of study may be considered
- In lieu of AAS degree specified as above, A High School diploma and two (2) years of direct work experience with industrial automation and controls may be considered
- You must have a minimum of two (2) years of experience in industrial automation and controls in addition to the above requirements
- You must have a valid state issued driver's license, this role requires operation of company vehicles
- Knowledge of utility systems and equipment
- Knowledge of tools and methods necessary to troubleshoot and maintain utility network and control systems and equipment
- Knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques used in the trade
- Knowledge of the trade occupational hazards and safety precautions while working in confined spaces, aerial or elevated locations, extreme temperatures, excavations, and other environmental caused conditions
- Knowledge of utility standards, and safety programs as governed by rules, regulations and guidelines of local, state, equipment manufacturers and others
- Ability to read and understand blueprints, Utility maps, and repair manuals
- Ability to perform basic math computations
- Ability to maintain records and system documentation
- Ability to analyze system problems, recommend and implement system changes
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with other department personnel, vendors and suppliers, and other staff
- Ability to train and instruct by providing, or following oral and written instructions

- Possess strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to manage and operate effectively in a team environment
- Ability to manage multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy
- Ability to use a company issued computer, and work with standard software applications
- Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions
- Must be physically capable to hear and understand audible alarms, detect changes in noise levels of equipment and portable radio communication
- Capable of frequently standing; walking; balancing; sitting; climbing (ladders, stairs, ramps, catwalks, and the like as required); kneeling; pushing; pulling; lifting (min. 50 lbs.)
- Capable of performing repetitive motions as required
- Required to have eyesight corrected at 20/40 to accurately read and interpret such as but not limited to instruments, gauges, utility maps, design drawings, and manuals
- Must be physically capable of entering and working in a confined spaces (steam tunnels, steam vaults, in and around piping systems) as required
- Must be physically capable of wearing protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to half and full-face respirators, fall protection equipment, hardhat, safety shoes, safety glasses
