LEGAL COUNSEL
We are looking for an experienced and talented Legal Counsel to join our team at either our Aberdeen - UK or Zoetermeer-Netherlands offices on a full time, staff basis.
As Legal Counsel, you will be a key member of our legal team, working closely with senior decision-makers across our business and advising them on legal, contractual and risk matters critical to our company's success . Becoming a valued member of a highly motivated, skilled and supportive legal team with exposure to clients and projects around the world.
What will you be doing?
• Managing projects and processes, working independently with limited supervision
• Working with our tender teams to win contract awards: playing a crucial role in driving our commercial success by helping to negotiate and draft terms reflecting a fair balance of risk and reward in our contracts
• Taking the lead to identify and advise our business teams on steps to mitigate contractual and legal risks, both at tender stage and throughout project execution phase, working closely with our contract management teams
• Coaching and reviewing the work of other legal professionals.
• Drafting, reviewing, negotiating, advising and/or supporting on all matters that require legal input, including in relation to supply chain contracts, frame agreements, vessel charters, confidentiality agreements, bank guarantees, tax and insurance matters and corporate documentation amongst others
• Advising on and ensuring claims and disputes are handled effectively to deliver strong outcomes, including arbitrations/litigations as necessary
• Providing support on ethics & compliance issues, ensuring that the company's integrity values are understood and promoted
• Helping to drive the business's efforts to improve predictable performance by delivering training to other functions
• You will be asked to plan and complete assignments, resolving challenges independently although with support. The challenges that you face are difficult and often complex. You will be asked to apply theories, principles, concepts and methodologies to achieve innovative solutions

- Qualified lawyer - Minimum honours LLB in Law (or equivalent - English or Scottish) is essential (other common law, German, Dutch or Norwegian equivalent qualifications also considered)
- Extensive experience as an in-house counsel or comparable law firm experience with an EPCI contractor (Experience in renewables and offshore construction is highly desired)
- Experience in a commercial / contracting environment; reviewing, advising on and negotiating complex tenders involving multiple stakeholders is essential
- Experience of advising on contentious matters and disputes
- Knowledge of standard industry contracts, such as FIDIC, BIMCO and LOGIC as well as knowledge of a variety of contract documentation such as, framework agreements, supply contracts, JV's, consortiums, partnership, NDA's, etc
- Good understanding of construction terminology, progress calculation methods, programmes of work and project timelines and risks
- Understanding of contracting under English law (Civil law experience would be beneficial)
- Extensive communication skills in English, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to identify risks and propose alternative strategies in order to mitigate risks while accomplishing the preferred path forward for the business if possible
- Skilled at functioning well within a team that interacts across different departments
- Ability and willingness to timely meet changing priorities
- Ability to be discreet and maintain confidentiality
- Proficiency in planning, negotiation, and organizing abilities
- Positive ethical values and willingness to raise concerns to internal team members
