Introduction
The Department of Health Services (DHS) , Mendota Mental Health Institute (MMHI) is currently recruiting for a Power Plant Operator-Senior.
This position will be working the overnight shift from 11:00pm to 7:00am.
MMHI is located on the north side of Madison and offers a beautiful campus environment, convenient free parking and an onsite workout facility. MMHI is an inpatient psychiatric facility, with one outpatient program, specializing in serving patients with complex psychiatric conditions, often combined with certain problem behaviors. MMHI is an integral part of the entire Wisconsin mental health service delivery system.

Position Summary
In this position, you will perform a variety of duties essential to the operation of a large institutional power plant. The MMHI power plant operates on natural gas and has fuel oil burning capabilities. The plant also has steam turbine and diesel driven generators capable of operating in parallel with the local utility. You will be responsible for:
Salary Information
The starting pay is $27.09, plus excellent benefits. A 12-month probationary period is required.
Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is in pay schedule and range 03/15.
Job Details
All applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.
All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by the facility or medical personnel directed by the facility within 30 days of the start date.
This position has physical requirements which may include but are not limited to lifting up to 50 lbs., standing, kneeling, bending, crawling, twisting and lifting. Applicants will be required to pass a physical evaluation to assess these requirements. Overtime may be required.
DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.

- Safely operating natural gas or oil-fired boilers which includes routine testing, inspections, maintenance and repairs.
- Performing lockout and tagout procedures used to ensure that equipment is shut down and inoperable until maintenance or repair work is completed.

- Experience performing general maintenance and repairs utilizing basic power tools, hand tools, and motorized equipment (e.g., fire alarms, locks, plumbing, general electrical repairs, etc.).
