Under supervision, to learn the operation of a turbo-electric generating plant, the maintenance of related machinery and equipment, the operation and maintenance of control systems, and do related work as required.

Essential Functions

To learn various areas of power plant operation and maintenance, including, but not limited to: boilers, turbines, pumps and related equipment; power plant control and instrument systems and related equipment; chemical tests and appropriate corrections on plant systems; reports abnormal conditions and takes appropriate corrective action.

Minimum Qualifications

Employment Standards:

Ability to learn the operation of power plant equipment; willingly work on a rotating shift or relief crew; establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and fellow employees and the public.

Special Conditions & Requirements: Positions allocated to this classification are in a trainingcapacity for Power Plant Operator. Maximum time for completion of the training program is 24months. Trainees may be terminated from employment at any time during the training period.An extension of the 24-month training period may be considered when all Power Plant Operatorpositions are filled. Successful completion of the training program will qualify an individual totake the examination for Power Plant Operator. Continued employment is not guaranteed ifthere are no vacant positions after one extension of the 24 month training period.

Education/Training: Graduation from high school or equivalent at time of appointment.

Supplemental Information

A valid California Class "C" driver's license or equivalent may be required at time of appointment.
