Wood is currently recruiting for a Commercial Advisor on a permanent contract to join our team in the Melbourne office to support the Asia- Pacific - Eastern Region, a region which encompasses a varied portfolio of contracts across various industries in eastern Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea.

Reporting to the Commercial Manager, this diverse role will perform the full range of commercial activities from commercial inputs to proposals, preparation and negotiation of commercial pricing models, pre- and post-award contract reviews, contract administration and commercial close out activities.

This role is an exciting opportunity to join our Asia-Pacific team in the Melbourne as a Commercial Advisor supporting a portfolio of significant contracts & projects with a key major client within the oil and gas sector in Asia-Pacific.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The key objectives for this role are:
  • Promote safe working practices within the commercial function
  • Under supervision, perform pre award activities, including commercial review of tender documents; developing commercial strategy for proposals; preparing commercial pricing models; preparing commercial qualifications; and coordinating legal, tax and insurance qualifications
  • Support the management and governance of the Tender Governance Policy (TGP), which governs pre award activities
  • Under supervision, perform post award contract commercial support, including; negotiating changes to commercial models; annual pricing reviews; ensuring contracts are set up correctly in the appropriate business system; ensuring that invoices are prepared in a timely and accurate manner and include full contract entitlement; ensuring commercial models and scope of delivery are understood by the contract management team; ensuring change is captured in contract variations/amendments; and commercial administration files are established and maintained
  • Lead the implementation and governance of the Financial Management Framework within assigned contracts to that commercial/financial risks are mitigated, and opportunities are identified
  • Lead and provide commercial support to finance personnel to ensure contract commercial compliance
  • Prepare monthly commercial reporting inputs to monthly contract performance reviews.
  • Under supervision, perform contract close out tasks including reconciliation of costs to revenue, and where applicable KPI closeout
  • Liaison with various internal and external customers (clients, executive management, project management etc.) in all areas of commercial management, problem solving, commercial strategy, negotiation and dispute resolution
  • Contribute directly to value creation and commercial gain

  • Skills typically acquired through completion of an undergraduate degree in business administration, commerce, quantity surveying, or similar discipline
  • In addition to an undergraduate degree, the individual should have at least 4 years work experience in the engineering, construction, energy, utilities or similar industry with demonstrable exposure to key contracting concepts, principles and commercial management in a technical services environment
  • Considerable experience in drafting and interpretation of contractual documentation.
  • Considerable experience in developing commercial strategies and preparing commercial pricing models
  • Considerable knowledge and experience of commercial administration processes and procedures
