Utility Manager

The Position

The Utility Manager is responsible for overseeing the effective management, maintenance, and optimization of utility systems and services within the organization. This includes energy, water, waste management, and other essential infrastructure to ensure operational efficiency, sustainability, and compliance with regulatory standards. The Utility Manager plays a vital role in supporting the organization's environmental goals and minimizing utility costs.

The main activities and responsibilities
  • Utility Systems Management: Oversee the operation, maintenance, and performance of utility systems, ensuring uninterrupted service to the organization.
  • Cost Control: Develop and manage utility budgets, identifying opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency improvements.
  • Sustainability Initiatives: Implement and monitor programs to reduce the organization's environmental footprint, including energy efficiency projects and waste reduction strategies.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all utility operations comply with local, state, and national regulations, including safety and environmental standards.
  • Performance Monitoring: Track and analyze utility usage data, providing regular reports and recommendations for optimization.
  • Vendor Management: Coordinate with external service providers, contractors, and suppliers to ensure quality and cost-effective delivery of utility-related services.
  • Emergency Response: Develop and implement contingency plans for utility system failures to minimize disruptions to operations.
  • Collaboration with Facilities Management: Work closely with facilities teams to align utility operations with building maintenance and operational goals.
  • Cross-departmental Engagement: Partner with other departments to support organizational objectives related to sustainability and cost management.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Provide clear updates to leadership and other stakeholders on utility performance, challenges, and improvement plans.
  • Project Coordination: Collaborate with project managers on infrastructure upgrades and utility system enhancements.
  • Safety Integration: Partner with safety teams to ensure all utility operations adhere to workplace safety standards and protocols.

The Ideal Candidate
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in utility management, facilities management, or a related field, with demonstrated success in managing utility systems and sustainability initiatives.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Facilities Management, or a related field. A master's degree is a plus.
  • Relevant certifications such as Energy Management (e.g., CEM - Certified Energy Manager) or equivalent are preferred.
  • Fluent in Dutch
